Was just reading this on kelly.com and was curious as to when you all started solids. I don't plan on starting until Bella is at least 6 months due to the things I've read. I was just wondering about when you all started and if you've had any problems.

With my oldest I was told to start him at 3mo so that's what we did. He now has terrible eczema and I really think that was the cause of it, but of course I don't know for sure. My middle son we started at 5mo. My youngest at 6mo but he refused to eat for awhile, didn't really start eating until 9mo.

I've been curious about this for the past weeks and asked friends and family and had also been leaning to wait until 6 months and then I read something that really made sense on https://www.askdrsears.com/html/3/T032000.asp:

How will I know when my baby is ready for solids?

As with all aspects of parenting, watch your child and not the calendar. Besides the developmental milestones above, watch for these ready-to-eat cues in your baby:

* Able to sit with support, reaches and grabs, and mouths hands and toys
* Watches you eat, following your fork as it moves from plate to mouth
* "Mooches," reaching for food on your plate
* Mimicks your eating behaviors, such as opening her mouth wide when you open your mouth to eat. Grabbing your spoon is not a reliable sign of feeding readiness, since baby may be more interested in the noise, shape, and feel of your utensils rather than the food stuff on them.
* Baby can show and tell. Around six months of age babies have the ability to say "yes" to wanting food by reaching or leaning toward the food and "no" by pushing or turning away. Expect mixed messages as your baby learns to communicate. When in doubt, offer, but don't force.

Does baby seem hungry for additional food? If your baby is content with breastmilk or formula, no need to complicate his life with solids. If, on the other hand, your baby seems unsatisfied after a feeding, is shortening the intervals between feedings, and several days of more frequent feedings don't change this, it may be time to begin.

4.5 months with #1.. he was over 9lb born and very hungry allllllll the time!

i started recently at 4months, Casey was showing a lot of signs of being ready, and has always been a hungry baby. now i boil up and puree apples, pears, carrots, sweet potatos and bananas and she has a small pot full of one each evening when i feel she is most hungry. she's taken to it really well .. it will probably be a while before i increase her solid food or cut out any milk feeds, but im pleased with how its going currently xxx

5 months 1 week on GP advice due to very low weight gain

We let him play with solids every once in a while.

A week before 6 months so I didn't know if I should vote for 5 or 6. :haha: It took her a few weeks to actually eat anything(BLW) but I'm glad we chose to wait. :flower:

You need to start feeding your baby solids when she is hungry for more than just milk. Don't look at the calendar, look at your baby and respond accordingly.

Started Ruby on abit of baby porridge after her tea time bottle a week ago xx

I started solids for both of mine at 4 months as HV advised as hungry baby milk was no longer enough, both took to it like a duck to water. My oldest has now been diagnosed with eczema and supspected asthma which new HV said was my fault for early weaning. My GP says is load of bullshit(his wors, not mine) and he wishes she would get off her high horse, as apparently she says to all mums who weaned early but were able to breast feed up until weaning. He said given mine and dh history, my little one would have had eczema anyway and asthma if he does indeed have asthma x

we have been giving olivia solids for just over 3 weeks now so she was around 13 weeks when we started.
we started her on solids on our hv's advise because despite being on hungry baby milk, ollie got to the point where she would have about 3oz of milk every hour.
we started her with fruity porridge for breakfast, she now has breakfast every morning and home cooked purrees every tea time and we've had no problems x

6 months, as she had all of the 'true' signs, but she still wasn't ready and didn't eat until 7.5 months.

we started rhys at 17 weeks and he is now a pro lol xx

I started weaning my LO when he was 5 months and 2 weeks old.He was waking up in the middle of the night for feeds with he never did before and he always cryed after his milk feeds. So thats why I started to wean him early.xxx

Voted 5 months, but se was 5 and a half. Started with small spoonfuls of vegetable puree. Started meat at 6 months and sweeter stuff at 6 and a half. She was definitely ready and is a very good eater now. Not picky at all and likes all her veggies and fruits. Was never a huge fan of the rice cereals, but loves oatmeal.
