When does second trimester begin?

I keep hearing conflicting reports from 12-14 weeks.

And when is it really safe/standard to announce? I know people say second trimester you're pretty much in the clear but how true is that compared to like 10 or 11 weeks? I've even heard people say to wait until 20 weeks.

I always heard 13+3 and 26+6 for trimester changes.

With DS we announced at 8w1d after a 2nd good ultrasound (we'd been through several early losses, and figured bad things can happen at any time)

Websites seem to go between 13 and 14 weeks for the start of second tri. As for the risk of problems, my ob said it is drastically reduced from 12 weeks.

I think it starts at 14 weeks or somewhere between 13 and 14 weeks? We told our families a few days ago (13 weeks by dating scan).
