I'm interested in knowing this, I'm 18wks today starting to feel flutters and small movements. Wondering when I can start talking to baby or husband can start talking and they can hear us whilst inside?

A baby develops the ability to hear sounds at about 18 weeks into the pregnancy, according to MayoClinic.com. The uterus, though snug and warm, is not soundproof. In fact, your baby can hear -- and respond to -- a wide range of sounds, from those your body makes to sounds outside your womb.

I have read that the amniotic fluid is also a sound amplifier. They begin to hear sound at 18 weeks, and at 23 weeks, the inner cochlea is completely developed, and baby can hear whatever the mother hears, although it is muffled.

I'm 21 weeks and my baby goes crazy whenever the candy crush tune is playing. So I think it can hear. And last week at 20 weeks my husband yelled at the football and it felt like a really big jump in my tummy.

So for me I'd say baby reacted to sounds at about 20 weeks. :)

Oh that is great ladies, hopefully in the next few weeks then. I might get husband more into bonding if he knows it can hear us now.

My husband and I had decided that who really knows for sure when our baby will hear our voices or feel the vibrations so we just always talk to her! I love when my hubby talks to her because I want him to bond with her as much as possible while I am pregnant :happydance:

One of the phone apps I have that gives you an update each day said today that baby will clearly be able to hear mum & dad's voice now. For the last few weeks my baby seems to have jumped with sudden loud noises like when my mum was using a hammer, and when some loud music started at a concert.

Babies start to hear your voice at around 15/16 weeks.

I remember that at around 18 weeks, my DD squealed about something that excited her and LO jumped. It was the biggest movement he's made yet, and since he had not been really moving at that time of day, I assumed he had heard her :)
