Hi all,

My nephew is 2 and a half and weighs 15.1 kilos. He keeps taking his arms out of the group 1 car seat which has a guide weight up to 18kg. My sister went to halfords to buy a 2-3 high backed booster. The guide weight is 15kg plus, approx 4-6 years. The man in halfords didn't want to sell to my sis because her son is only 2 and a half, not 3. My sister feels he's safer in the high backed booster than in the group 1 taking his arms out. Also his sister is 13 months and getting too big for the 0+. My daughter is 3 and a 1/4 but weighs less than him.
Would you move him??
Xx

I wouldn't no. My DD is currently a couple of pounds away from the weight limit for her group 1 and it's only now I'm starting to think about getting her a 2,3 car seat. She went through a phase of taking her arms out when she was 2ish but she quickly got over it when I kept telling her she wasn't to do that.

I wouldn't either and I did move my DS to a high backed booster seat as soon as he was over 15kgs but he was 3yrs 10months not 2 1/2.

If he's taking his arms out and not sitting properly then he'll be even worse with the seatbelt where it's easier to get out and lean right out of the seat if you want to. My DS also had a phase of taking his arms out of the harness around 2 1/2. I pulled over, took his toy away and was very, very cross with him. I only had to do it 2x and he didn't do it again.

I didn't move mine until he was 18 kgs at 4 yrs 2 month.

Thanks ladies. I've persuaded her to borrow our spare one until my daughter is out of hers. I tend to keep her in the lowest group car seat I can for as long as poss. She was 17 months before are was out of the 0+!! She'll probably be at least four when I move her up.

no i wouldnt move him..
just keep putting his arms back in.
2yrs is waaay too young to be in a normal belted seat x

ive just moved LO into her high back booster with a normal belt as shes 18.1kg. she will be 4 in feb.

No, guidelines are to keep them in the seat until they reach the maximum weight for that category. If he is 15kg I'd wait till he was 18kg, it would be different if he was over three years but two is very young.

My son went through a stage like that, I pulled over whenever it was safe and put his arms back in and repeated and repeated, it's not an issue now.

My son is 16.5 kg, 92cms and 27 months he *could weight wise be in a high back booster but he will be ERF till he is 18kgs which is our seat weight limit.

i agree wityh above said. theres also the 5 point plus which closes the sides of the belt so he cant escape anymore.

any way lo is in an erf seat which weight wise can be used until 25kg.
(shell probs grow out of it before she hits the weight limit as she is atm 92 cm on about 12.5 kg.

My son is over 18kg but is still too short to fit the high backed booster very well (shoulder strap sits too high). No way I'd have a 2.5 year old in one.

Thomas was about 15kg at 2.5 also but has only gone into the booster recently. He turned 4 on December 1st.

I wouldn't either in fact I'm so sad that ds1 is probably going to have to come out if his much earlier than I'd planned as we won't fur 3 car seats across the back seat of our car and can't afford to change it for a more roomy one, I feel like an awful parent

Minties being curious what height is your son? While I'm happy to leave my 93 cm shorty in the toddler seat I'm curious about height for the next seat.

Op I would keep your nephew in the harness but I'd look at adjusting the straps maybe try moving them up a notch to help stop him getting his arms out.
