My friend has just got her 8 month old fitted for shoes, despite the fact he's not even cruising furniture?!! Seems a bit premature to me? They aren't crawling shoes, they have proper hard soles on them?

I was always under the impression that you were meant to wait until your baby is properly walking before getting shoes fitted?

When will you/should you get your babies feet measured and fitted for shoes?

Thanks :flower:

My kids walked in barefeet until it was necessary for them to need them outside. Barefeet is best.

I was told that to have proper walking shoes, they should be walking unaided for 4-6 weeks but can have cruisers when they cruise furniture or walk holding hands. xx

My LO refuses to keep socks or shoes on her feet so I never put them on her which is alright just now as its still warm. I always thought they shouldn't really wear shoes until they were walking as its not great for their feet. Maybe I'm wrong  Don't think i'll get Madelyn fitted for shoes until she's walking and walking outside even although she is cruising and crawling now. eally when you think about it shoes are only really needed when walking on the ground outside.

i dont see the need to 'be fitted' for shoes professionally so to speak. Mylo is now a size 4.. cos 3 is too small and 5 is too big.. simple.
Hes been walking two weeks unaided.. i dont feel the need to get him measured when I know.. besides they'll be measuring him everymonth cos his feet grow so fast!!

I think it is important to be fitted properly. Badly fitting shoes can cause big problems later in life.

River is now in walkers but she has been walking unaided for about 5 weeks i think

Doctors recommend not putting shoes on babies unless it's absolutely nessesary (being outside). Barefoot is best while they are learning to walk. If you do want to put shoes on your LO make sure they are soft soled shoes. That way their feet are not too restricted. When they are walking properly (at least 6 weeks), then you can move on to harder soled shoes. And yes, it is important to have shoes fitted.

Agree barefoot is best. But I would get them fitted when walking properly and outside.

Well, I started buying cruising shoes 1 mnth back as his feet r quite large & chubby & they dont fit anymore in baby shoes, & he has 1 or 2 proper shoes. But I dont put them on when he cruising or standing up, only when we'r out. He ends taking them off anyway & I dont bother to put them back on.

Adam's been walking independently for a month, and he was cruising for 2.5 months before then, and he doesn't have hard-soled shoes, just soft-soled cruisers, which he wears outside, but only if he's going to be walking - the rest of the time he is barefoot or socks for warmth if we're out. I am going to keep him in the cruisers as long as possible; guess he'll get proper shoes in a month or so, when the weather turns and he needs them. I will be having them fitted professionally because I have no idea how much growing room there should be.

I don't see much point in wasting money on anything other than soft-soled shoes until they're even properly walking.

not until they are walking. My mum went to get shoes for my brother when we were younger. And the shop assistant refused because she didnt believe he was walking. So she got my 10month old brother out the pushchair and he then walked around the whole shop. Then my mum got the shoes lol. X

When we walked into clarks to get Rivers shoes the woman looked at her and said crawlers? I told her she was walking and she said ah ok cruisers then.

so i popped River on the floor and she toddles off. She offered walkers after that :dohh:

I went to get Jake measured a few weeks back for cruisers..to be told they dont actually makes shoes that will fit his clown feet lol..so to come back when he can walk so they can see what they can do. DS1 was walking by 9.5mths and Jake seems to be going the same way, so now im worried that he will be walking and still no shoes will fit him and i will have to get them specially made so he can leave the house lol. But yeah, hard soles only after walking for a bit and when they can walk round a round unaided imo.

Emma has been walking for almost 2 months now and she still doesn't have shoes. I plan on taking her to get fitted next week. Even outside in the grass I let her walk barefoot. I don't see the harm in it. I plan on getting her soft soled shoes but not cruisers if that makes sense. I'm going to get the inbetween stage that is somewhat hard but really flexible. I'm no good at explaining it. :haha: I've been eyeing Robeez shoes.

I really think a baby needs to have been walking for a little while unaided before hard soled shoes should be bought. When a baby learns to walk they curl their little toes over to get a grip, with shoes on, especially hard soled shoes, they can't do this and will probably take longer to walk.

We got fitted for cruisers a few weeks ago so that C can play outside. It's very
important to have properly fitted shoes. I worked in a shoe shop when I was younger and you could really tell the kids whose parents never got them proper shoes. Its so important for support at the ankles!

We had to get LO fitted anyway as he has massive H width feet!!

Am going to go back for proper shoes once he starts walking...

if shes walking confidently she really should get walkers. Theyre heavier than cruisers and she needs to get used to them

Yeah I was thinking those Robeez 1st steps shoes. They are still somewhat of a flexible sole but hard enough that her feet will be protected. I think.. I'm going to stride rite next week to see what they think. :haha:

Something like these would work right?
