Me and mum always do dinner together, but she always does the huge shop (and we stay at her house) she normally cooks a fresh turkey crown, beef and a chicken, always from asda, i personally really rate them, that said, i only eat chicken!

we are thinking of trying to find a farm that is selling them direct this year.

We pre-order a turkey crown from the butchers and buy some beef and everything else from Asda:)

WE get our turkey diect from a local farm and our beef/pork from the butchers

My Dad's work give him a HUGE turkey (not frozen), and ham as their Christmas gift to him

We usually go to the in laws or my parents for dinner each year (we alternate)

Its usually my Granda that gets the turkey for our side of the family and I haven't a clue where he gets it from! LOL.

MIL makes chicken because all her family prefer it  x

oh its just not the same without a turkey! reminds me of the royale family episode where they all moan about how dry the turkey was then when barbara suggests not bothering with one next year they all look disgusted with her for saying that

I just buy it from walmart. It comes in a big plastic wrap and you just unwrap it when you are ready for it and stick in the oven for about 12 hours :haha:

i dont go to the butchers or anything like that to get turkey its to expensive. plus i dont think they do that over here anyways.

oh dont cook it for 12 hours. I cooked my turkey for an hour and a half - 2hrs last year and it was huge and fed 13.

We get our Turkey fresh from the butchers

Those cooking times are so different to the times on the food safety leaflet given to me by my butcher  my turkey was 20lbs if I am right that is about 9kgs, so it needed to be cooked for 5.5-6hrs. But mine was stuffed so obviously it will need a bit longer than a unstuffed one :)

This website calculates turkey cooking times for anyone who needs it :)

Ham, pork loin, turkey is from a local butcher. Goose is from a local farm shop.

Last year I got a turkey crown with stuffing and wrapped in bacon from Marks and Sparks, just for the two of us. I think it was about £4.

yeh i went on that website and it said 4hr 8mins.. i did it in just over half of that time. it would have been dry as a bone if i did it another 2 hours  This is why so many people hate turkey and find it dry!

i always get our from our local butcher
we dont like turkey so have a some beef and pork

it costs about £35 for beef (feeds 5)
and pork costs about £20 to also feed 5

i never buy mymeat from a supermarket

I was shocked when I saw the times on your website, if I had of took my turkey out after 2-3 hrs it would still be practically raw, goodness when I get a small chicken for sunday dinner it takes 1.5hrs to cook and thats unstuffed  My turkey was actually still quite a bit moist after the 5.5hrs OH actually wanted me to do it a bit longer cus he likes his dry  I guess cooking a bird is like raising a child we all do it different :haha:
