Our LO (who is almost 6 weeks old) has a feed, then bath in the evening. Once he's sleepy we put him in his moses basket to sleep. Up until now this has always been downstairs in the living room with us (we have a living room with a through dining room, so we leave the lights off in there and he's very close by). The trouble with that is we're trying to relax in front of the tv while he's trying to sleep, so we end up disturbing each other, esp now he's more aware of his surroundings.

Should we be putting him down upstairs in the evening (obviously with a monitor) so he can sleep better? :shrug:He sleeps in our room in his moses basket at night. What did/do you ladies do with similar aged LOs? I'm nervous about him being in a different part of the house for several hours!

At 6 weeks, Jess fell asleep in the living room with us in her Moses basket, but around 8 weeks we put her upstairs with the monitor in her moses basket. We didnt disturb her (luckily). 12 weeks and we put her in her cot in her own room.

Its really up to you, whatever you feel is best, but we just felt more comfortable at that age with us in the living room. If its a video monitor you have, even better reassurance!

Good thread-I have been thinking about the same thing. Our LO is 1 mth and i have been worrying about getting her into a bad habit by having her in the lounge with me throughout day and evening until we all go to bed and we put her in the crib.

This past week with our son, once he has had his last feed wh ich can be anywhere around 7.30-9pm we put him in his moses basket in our bedroom with the monitor on, that then gives me and oh a couple of hours to ourselves, but until his last feed he is in the living room with us. We are still only bathing him every other day so once we start doing it everyday (around 6 weeks) we are going to try and have him settled upstairs by 7.30pm so he can start getting into a proper routine.

We were worried about this too but honestly, they are still really young at that age and not really sure about a routine as such yet. From my experience, Id say from 8 weeks onwards is when you should start if you want them to start getting used to a proper routine, Jess goes to sleep by herself now in her cot, in her own room at 6.45pm and sleeps until 7am. I know all babies are different though and it doesnt happen for everyone.

Im glad we did what we did.

Thanks for the replies. I'm also thinking of doing this to get LO used to being in his cot in his own room (we'd just put his basket inside the cot for now). The reason is he's quite a long baby (he 60cm/2ft) and I don't think he'll fit into his moses basket for more than another month or so I think we'll be forced to move him out early (even though I really don't want to, I know the advice is 6 months and I'd like to stick to that if poss). I just don't think we can fit his cot into our room.

Hazel was going up to bed by about 8 weeks xx

I put my LO to sleep in her crib in her room every time she sleeps, other than during the night when she sleeps with me in bed. Her room is right next door to ours but we keep both doors shut so we don't wake her up. She's always been fine, it also keeps me from picking her up as soon as she makes a noise since she usually will fall back asleep if I just leave her alone.

By about that age we started to put LO up in our room at about 8pm ish, with the monitor on and we checked on him regularly. He outgrew his moses basket so went into his cot in his own room at 10 weeks. Now he has all his naps in his cot as he doesn't fit in his carrycot either.

I think our LO was about 8 weeks when we started putting him upstairs. He is still in our room in his cot but he goes up for half 8 amd that's him until 8.30am. He was wakening once for a feed in the night but seems to have stopped that for now :happydance:

Kian falls asleep on me then sleeps in his bouncer downstairs he sleeps in my bed at night and won't sleep anywhere else x

Daisy goes to bed on her own about half 7 but when she was a baby (up to 6 months) she would always be with us :flower: x

Jess is quite colicy in the evenings and is often awake until 9.30 so she is downstairs with us, the noise of the tv doesn't really bother her

When dylan was tiny he would sleep in Moses basket in the living room until we went to bed. Now he goes in his cot in his room at about 6:30pm. Aw I'm a bit nostalgic for the early days now!
