i heard that kiddicare have started selling them?

Not online that I can see  I don't know where my nearest store is. Just found some online for about £300. Seems ridiculous as I'll use it maybe once or twice as I don't have a car :dohh:

That's how much you pay for an extended rear facing seat unfortunately.

We're in a similar position I think - we don't drive ourselves, but my parents keep a carseat in their car which belongs to us, although we really don't use it all that often. We're considering the Britax First Class Plus, as it rear faces to 13kg, then forward faces to 18kg https://www.britax.co.uk/car-seats/first-class-plus-special

It seems the best compromise of price and keeping LO rear facing for as long as possible. Hopefully, as ERF becomes more normal and common, the seats will reduce in price. Until then, for non-drivers who occasionally use the car, it's either an expensive seat you won't use enough to get the money's worth, or a cheaper seat which isn't as safe as ERF.

I have just bought the britax first class plus :) its brilliant and is rear facing up to 9kg i think but the lady in mothercare said you can use it rear facing as long as you want and as long as the baby is comforatable..

I have hear that the law maybe changing to 13months rear facing.,. hence why we bough a rear facing car seat! It was only £99 so really chuffed wit it!

it rear faces to 13kg, although you can turn it round when they reach 9kg. I'm not sure why you would though, given the seat is safe rear facing until 13kg and it's so much safer for LO! We're thinking of buying one as LO's head is hanging over the top of his infant carrier, even though his weight isn't 9kg yet!

I've just bought one from here:

www.incarsafetycentre.co.uk

They have quite a wide range starting from £195. I've bought the Britax Hi-Way II which exclusively rear faces up to 55lb

If you want ERF (18kg +) then you're looking at the cheapest being about £200, unfortunately. As someone else said, hopefully if it becomes more commonplace then there will be more options at cheaper prices.

A couple of online places which are very good are www.carseat.se (Swedish, but sends to the UK), www.secureatot.co.uk and https://www.incarsafetycentre.co.uk/. If you check out www.rearfacing.co.uk, then they have a list of stockists by area. It's worth phoning/e-mailing the ones on their list to double check what they have though, as I found that info to be out-of-date for some places.

As other have mentioned, combi seats such as the Britax First Class Plus or the Maxi Cosi Opal are cheaper ways of getting a somewhat extended RF time. Although most infant carriers go to 13kg these days too, combi seats generally have a bigger shell, and are more upright, which keeps older babies happier :) There are loads of different options for combi seats. If you look on the likes of kiddiccare.com or mothercare.com, you can sort by age range, so you're looking for group 0+1 or ones that say something like 9 months to 4 years.

Hope that helps :)
