I have a 3 year old and am expecting another lo in march. My daughter is in an erf car seat which has to go behind the passenger seat or it won't fit. Where is the safest place to put the baby? Behind the driver or in the front passenger seat? I feel bad that I can't have both of them behind the passenger.

If you drive alone a lot, I'd put your daughter behind the driver's seat. If you need to turn around to check on your newborn for any reason, having them behind the passenger seat would be a lot easier.

If your only option is to have your daughter behind the passenger seat, I'd put baby behind the drivers seat, not in the front

My daughters seat has to go on passengers side as the seat on front has to be pushed right up against it and therefore can't be moved. I am worried about how I will be able to check on the baby though if she is behind me.

I have 2 and dd age 3 is behind the passenger, dd age 4 months is behind the driver. My reasoning is it's safer for my older daughter to get out on the pavement side. Tbh I don't really check on my baby while I'm driving, if I needed to do that I'd pull over.

I would place baby in the back behind the drivers seat. This is where my son is. I have something like this

It makes it very easy to look up in Rearview mirror and check on the baby.

Definitely behind the driver's seat. I don't even think its legal in Canada to have a baby in the front.

Behind the drivers seat, and you can buy a mirror for a quick glance.

My only issue with the mirrors is that they pretty much completely take away all the visibility in our car. We finally had to take it down when we (lightly) back into another car... Oops! I'm guessing it would work better in a bigger car with better visibility, though.

My set up is the same as yours, my eldest is in a erf seat behind the passenger and my youngest behind the driver. It's worked well for us

Can you not put your toddler in the front seat? I'm sure you're allowed to in the UK as long as the airbag is disabled

Is there not enough room to have new seat for new bub in the middle? I only have one so don't have any squabbling siblings experience!!

I would do baby behind driver. In all the data i've seen, the backseat is safer than the front.

Alex has always been behind the driver's seat as OH doesn't have enough legroom with Louis' erf seat and so L goes behind the passenger seat.

I would put your daughter in the ERF seat behind the passenger seat and baby behind the driver's seat. Kids in a car seat shouldn't be in the front, even with the air bag disabled (because air bags can still deploy even when technically 'disabled'). Really, you shouldn't be doing anything with baby while driving anyway, so it just forces you to pull over if you need to check on baby, which is better all around.

I would put baby behind the driver's seat and get a decent mirror that fits onto the headrest. I wouldn't put either child in the front if you can avoid it - guidance says you must disable the airbag if you do, since they are not suitable to deploy against children - however from research I've done, disabling the airbag is not always reliable and they sometimes still deploy.

If you can't put baby in the passenger seat, then behind the driver seat.
