Hi All! I m not sure if this will make sense but i'll see how i go!
When I went for my 12 weeks scan i was very sure i was 12weeks and 1 day, im pretty sure i know the date i conceived. At the scan I was put forward to 13+2. So today I should be 37+3 not 38+4! Just wondering if anyone knows which one should be more accurate? Does it depend on the growth in the first 12 weeks as to the outcome of your due date? I know babies come when they decide but im just curious. Does anyone have or has had a similar situation and the scan date been closer when the baby was born than lmp? Hope this made some sense, cheers x

Your scan dates are probably not ever going to be the same as the time you conceived. Im out by a week if i went from the time i conceived but I think its more accurate to go with your scan dates as the growth is sporadic in the first 12 weeks any way.. To be honest, it dosent really matter, your LO will come when he or she is ready and if you need to be induced etc then the drs and MWs will go from your EDD from your 12 week scan.

But it does matter! My dates were also put forward a week at my first scan, I went from 13+2 to 14+2 based on the baby's measurements. Unfortunately it is not biologically possible that I ovulated 7 days earlier, my cycles are pretty regular and I know when I ovulated.

The problem is exactly one of induction, at my second scan the baby was measuring much closer to my dates, so my thoughts are that she was just bigger at the first scan, because as you say, growth isn't linear. But because they base EDD on the first scan, it means that they will say I am overdue as soon as I go over their date (which I already know is not biologically possible), when in reality I am not truly overdue.

And I don't want to be put under pressure to be induced or be given all sorts of horror stories, when in fact it's their dates that are wrong! I can understand that they have to go by a scan if a woman is not sure of her dates, but I know my body, and I'm definite of my dates. Plus the fact that first babies aren't often born at 40 weeks, I think I read somewhere that the average gestation is 40+6, that means by their dates it will be 41+6 and I'm sure the doctors will be having nervous breakdowns by that point if I haven't gone into labour and be pushing for induction and who knows what else, when in fact by my dates it would be perfectly normal.

But you can refuse induction and ask for frequent monitering, that way it give baby a chance to come when they are ready. Doctors cannot force induction if you refuse it

Good points! I suppose we will find out soon and as I keep hearing that babies tend to grow at different rates, so who knows when they will turn up!? x

True try not to worry, babies come when they are ready and if you do end up refusing induction you could atleast wait a week til you consider yourself 'post term' and then consider induction x

I am worried because i was 15 days late(induced) with my last baby and he grew to a huge 10lb 3oz and i really don't want that to happen again as it was awful! x

At 12 weeks measurements can be almost a week off either way. The farther you get the more inaccurate the measurements, because all babies grown at different rates. 6 weeks would be the most accurate with only 2 days off either way. So you may be a week behind what your Dr. measured, but really your baby will come when he/she is ready. Thought you will be induced once you are a week or two late depending on where you live, so even if you did get induced late you would still be at your due date if your later date it actually the right one
