Has anyone bought/used a white noise machine to help their LO drift off to sleep?

We're forever using the hairdryer while rocking LO to sleep, or to calm her down when she's suffering with wind/reflux/is overtired, and to mask the noise of me and DH when we're getting ourselves comfy in bed, as the sound of one of us turning over can wake her right back up again :dohh: Obviously we can't leave it on for long as 1) It's expensive and 2) We've now started accidently falling asleep to it, and it's dangerous!!

We've tried white noise apps on our phones and recorded sounds, and the main thing seems to be they're not loud enough, or "real" enough for her

So I saw a white noise machine on Amazon and was wondering if anyone has used one before? It will use less electric and is safe to leave on if I fall asleep, and all night if needs be. I think it's about £30-£40 and want to know if it's worth the money?? :flower:

Our son was the same as a newborn, white noise was the only thing that settled him to sleep. We just "tuned" the radio to a non-station that made white noise and that worked for us.

Stop using the hair drier. My friend is a social worker. She is currently working on a case where the parents fell asleep when the hair drier was on for white noise - it gave the baby 3rd degree burns to her leg :nope:. They are now being investigated, when all they were trying to so was settle their baby to sleep. I would hate for that to happen to anyone else.

So the £40 quid is worth it when you look at it that way!

Good luck! White noise saved my life!

Slumber bear is great hun. https://www.google.co.uk/#sclient=psy-ab&hl=en&safe=off&source=hp&q=slumber+bear&pbx=1&oq=slumber+bear&aq=f&aqi=g4&aql=&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=316l2197l0l2234l12l7l0l1l1l0l885l1514l1.4.6-1l6l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=10137667427bee8c&biw=1366&bih=651

I use this one https://www.amazon.com/Homedics-SS-...SW64/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1316437307&sr=8-1

Very useful as it has rain sounds, ocean sounds, a couple off lullabies and a projector for morning fun.

We use the Sleep Sheep with our daughter and use either the heartbeat sound or the ocean waves one. It has worked out very well for us.

I bought a slumber bear for my LO when she was little.. but it never worked for us! Tho that could possibly due to her having hearing loss, but not certain, as she has perfect hearing still in one ear.

The noise it makes is great tho, it also has womb noises and a setting to record your sound.

I was looking at this too only this morning. LO usually sleeps with the noise of an electric fan but it costs a bomb in electricity and its too cold what with winter coming. i also looked at slumber bear but feel i need something that stays in all night. does slumber bear make noise all night or is it just when LO stirs ?

i downloaded a few white noise tracks onto my iphone & put that into her moses basket with her all night.
xx

big love for Slumber Bear in this house! Jx

I've downloaded this to my mobile, LO loves it, 12 hrs white noise. Worth a try before you spend £30-£40 on that machine :)

Just to clarify, the hairdryer is nowhere near LO (crib is my side of the bed, hairdryer is husbands side), and it's always on the cool setting just in case one of us drops off by accident.. It is very rare that we do but better safe than sorry :flower:

Thanks everyone! Although I've tried all apps, recordings, and static on the radio lol. And she's not one for nature sounds either! Looks like it's between Slumber Bear and that machine! x

we have an mp3 for naps!
she naps in the livingroom so its on my laptop.

We've got the Prince Lionheart Slumber Bear Plus... You get a bear, a blankie and a machine that plays white noise, womb noises, lullabies and the sea. It plays the sounds for 5 mins, then restarts if it's jostled or anyone makes a loud noise. It's a lifesaver for me!

Try this, I guarantee it'll work - turn it up as loud as your laptop will go!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJGvq0kuV1g It's almost the same as a hairdryer and lasts 12hours!

Otherwise I have an mp3 that is a bit like the Slumber Bear noise (I have a slumber bear too but it doesn't play continuously.) I can e-mail it to you if you like? Then you can burn it to a CD, turn it up and put it on repeat. It kind of reminds me a bit of a tumble dryer noise lol.

Now we just use a small air purifier that only uses 7.5kw (about a fiver a year if left on 24/7) and it makes just enough noise to settle LO. It's a Lloyds Pharmacy one and I got it from TJ Hughes for a £6 if anyone is looking (wouldn't be loud enough for your LO though OP) xx
