I didn't know newborns who aren't even a week old and have no teeth are capable of suckling so hard they draw blood from your poor right nipple
To top it off, the left breast just refused to let out any milk today, so was resigned to formula since obvs breastfeeding with a bleeding nipple is nothing short of torture.
DH (who is brilliant) suggested using an Avent hand-pump that came with a bottle sterilising system he bought for us...and OMG. 4 oz, no pain at all, and FINALLY that wonderful hormonal release. Feel completely relaxed, like I'm a good mum...and Luciano LOVES drinking breastmilk from the bottle because it's instant gratification - no hunting around for the nipple or having to rearrange him so he doesn't get smushed by my huge boobs.
If anyone else is going through those first horrible sore days and has planned on pumping later when they go back to work/school (for example) or whatever, I really recommend you give it a try NOW!!
