wht would you do would you send your child in an run the risk of then catchin them whilst being pregant an then have to treat your child an yourself with the stuff (chemicals )

or would you keep them of for the rest of the week an send them bac nxt week

am worried incase she gets them an i have to treat her an myself with the chemicals whilst being heavly pregant.

any sugguestions or comments i would love to hear i no its late am keepin her off 2mora for the simple fact shes still not a 100% but was worried about the rest of the week

thks xxxx

There are lots of ways to get rid of headlice without using chemicals.
Some people swear by using hair straighteners.
Personally, I like to buy some cheap conditioner and load it onto the hair. When the hair is coated really thickly in conditioner I then spend time with a lice-comb and remove all of the lice and eggs that way. It is very time consuming, but very effective and is chemical free.
Hope that helps.

I would keep her home if possible (which sometimes its not) lice is so spreadable ecspecially if the little girls all want to play "beauty shop" and do each others hair and such.

Id send her in.

I have 4 in schools and 2 in nursery so mine are all at risk!

I never use chemicals, i wash their hair, condition it and comb every 3ish days

Dont worry about them hun xx

i have one problem i have problems in gettin her into the bath she slipped awhile ago an went under the water (i was with her luckly) an ever since this has happened ive been unable to wash her hair regualarly i wash it when ever she lets me ( which is like 1 a week) an to sit there an comb it is an even worse nitemare.

i neva let her go to skool with her hair down its always in 2 plats o i wondered if she could still get them ( i hate them am 26 years old an touch wood neva had them )

Doesn't matter if her hairs up or not she can still get them. As a kid I got them twice and my daughters had it twice. I had to treat my son as well but since he was under 2 I put mayonaise on his head and let it sit. This is suppose to smother them. There are many other ways to kill them. Have you checked her head yet? They can be really hard to see in blonds

Well from personal experience, i kept getting lice recurring as a child. I personally would not send her in (if possible) do to the fact that some people have a harder time getting rid of the lice. I was one of them who HAD to have chemicals to kill them off, only to then find out that they were all over the house (carpets, bed sheets, pillowcases, couch ect) so our whole house had to be cleaned.

if u have trouble washing hair u can buy some descent spray leave in conditioner i use the green charles worthing it dosent leave the hair greasy also ive got a nitty gritty nit comb it removes eggs too the best comb i ever brought n it works i tried loads before i got that one they are about 10 pound but u can get them on prescription TBH i would still send her she could potentially be at risk from catching them every time shes there even if u arent aware

Not sure what advise to give on the send or stay home issue but for another chemical free way to treat.... diluted vinegar.

The vinegar will dissolve the "glue" they use to attach the eggs to the hair, smells to high heaven but does work

TBH, my 10 yr old had them constantly when she was in nursery...i used to treat her, get rid of them, then she'd go back the next week and get them again! Basically some parents don't seem to bother treating their kids and it gets ridiculous.

I would send her in, i understand your chemical issues, but i'm pretty sure you could sort it with conditioner and nit comb. She'll be missing out on her fun time with her friends, for the sake of 'what ifs'.

Also i have to say, the stigma attached to nits is silly too...long, short, clean or dirty, if a child or adult is going to catch them, nothing will stop the blighters!

Hope she feels better with her sicky soon xxx

We got stuff from Boots when my son came home with it this year. I think it's called ''Hedrum'' or something. Anyway, it's safe for pregnant women to use and did the job. You put it on and leave it on overnight and wash it out the next day.

Regarding her panic about her hair being washed, an alternative is to have her lay back on the kitchen counter with her head poking out over the kitchen sink (you supporting her head, and use a big cup and fill with warm water and do her hair that way. You can explain to her ahead of time what you're doing so that she doesn't have to worry about slipping and falling, etc.. just a thought.

Oh and never ever use straighteners to get lice out as it hardens the glue on the eggs and makes it more difficult to get them out and secondly the lice are on the scalp so the straighteners don't have any effect on them anyway.
My friend is a hairdresser and told me this.

awwww thk you so much all these ideas are great am goin to go out in a bit an look at the products an see which is the best to get if i cnt get anything i guess ill be buyin one of the nit combs an loads of conditioner an try an do her hair tht way.

i no nits an lice are always around but its the thought of her havin them tht scares the shit out of me :( am no good at things like tht lol

i didnt no tht they could live in beddin or carpets etc neva even crossed my mind i wash her beddin every other day cos we have a dog tht loves bein with her 24/7 even when shes playin in her room she hasnt got a carpet but ill mop her room everyday aswell to try an prevent them.

i no theres a lot of kids in her skool whos parents arent really bothered about there kids gettin them an neva do anything to get rid to which i cnt understand if you have a baby you have a life time of commitment to your child i love my child an my unborn child i would do anythin to protect them :) xxxxx

my son has long hair (his choice) i keep getting letters saying someone has found lice in their kids hair! i use tea tree shampoo an conditioner an go through his hair 3times a week or as often as he will let me he does get fed up with it i also have a comb thats supposed to take out the eggs aswell an i dont often find anything in his hair now so i think its a combo of all of it the conditioner the tea tree an the comb! its working for me! i wouldnt keep her off school or she will never go cause there is always someone who doesnt go through their kids hair! all you can do is keep on top of yoour daughters best you can!

When my son had it and I was checking out some sites and info online about it, a lot of them specifically said that the nits can't live if they're not on the head (because they need that warmth and just don't live elsewhere) and so they said not to worry about washing the bedding and everything else in the house as they don't live there.

I've heard there can be another type of head bug altogether that can live on in the bedding and whatnot, but nits are not this type of bug.

I'm not an expert on it and just passing on what I've read about it...I never bothered to wash down the house after my son got it. I just treated the family's hair and that was it, and we've been nit-free ever since.

Second what was said about using tea tree oil shampoo and conditioner as a preventative. You can just add a drop of the oil itself to your regular shampoo while you are using it, or you can buy the actual tea tree shampoo.
