As title says, what the hell is wrong with people!!

Am sat here at home with the in-laws at the moment and MIL just said to FIL..

"show him that crab toy, he's scared of it, it's so funny!"

Why would that be funny? she knows it'll make him cry and then it'll take me a while to console him so why do it?????

Although I don't have any issues with my MIL. I think intentionally upsetting a baby for a laugh is pretty insensitive. How awful!

I think there must be classes that they take on how to intentionally wind us up!

That's horrible. You should tell her how wrong and inappropriate that is, it's bullying really. Or you could say to her "How about I punch you in the face cos it'll make you cry and that'll be funny?!" See how she feels about that! :dohh:

Its not that bad IMO. As long as she isn't hurting him to get him to cry, its not a huge deal.

I used to play band flute when i was younger (i wasn't bad at it either), and my younger brother (8 months at the time) would cry as soon as i started playing and stop as soon as i stopped.

I thought it was hilarious. I think we got it on film somewhere.

But if it bothers you so much, tell her to stop. Its your child, not hers.

yes but you were a child. This is a adult making a baby cry on purpose.

im sure you wouldnt like it someone made you cry then found it hilarious!

My dad thinks stuff like thiis is fimnny, he winds up my dog and attempted to do it on my son as my son is afraid of my piano so he threatens to go over and hit the keys just to see him cry. I think its nasty and I got it as a child and its so not nice for the child. My mum would be a bully to in that sence. And yes that is bullying a kid my parents do that on my sis just to wind her up all through her childhood, now she is really agressive

Its not funny its stupid and no one dare do it on my son or i will kick their asses.

My mother was there with me and my little brother. We all thought it was funny. He isn't hurt or traumatized and it wasn't a big deal. But that's just us.

As long as she isn't hurting the baby, i don't think its as serious as everyone is making it out to be. If i was in the same situation, and i wanted my MIL to stop, i would just ask her to stop and take the baby away.

Honestly, i might have chuckled myself. I don't think the baby is crying because its hurt or scared, it just doesn't like what it sees. Some babies cry when they don't like the taste of something. Crying is not necessarily a bad or evil thing. And i definitely don't think that alone makes your MIL a stupid or insensitive person.

So traumatising child who is scared of something that you dont think is scary is ok long as your not psyhcailly hurting them? Id kick your ass if I seen you do that and laugh.

How do you know the child is scared? Just because the child is crying?

I think some people are more sensitive than others. I also believe in the cry it out method, and some people would say that's traumatizing.

I honestly think sometimes consoling a child for every little thing can hurt them more than letting them learn that for some things they will have to console themselves.

I have personally know a baby who co-slept and was consoled for every little thing, and let me tell you, he is ALOT more aggressive and mean than my younger brother.

I think its a matter of opinion. You think that the baby crying must mean that they are hurt or scared, but babies cry because they can't speak. Just because they are crying doesn't necessarily mean they are hurt or scared. And i don't agree that showing a baby a toy or making a noise the baby doesn't like is "traumatizing".

I also don't agree on showing a child violence but i guess we have different opinions on that as well..

Lets see your opnion on this when you actually have your child. Makeing a baby cry for your entertainment is down right cruel!

im sorry but if you knew something really upset your LO and you do it again on purpose then that IS bullying :(

someone gave my son when he was wee a toy horse that walked and neighed. he was terrified and burst into tears and screamed. I gave it to a charity shop incase someone tried it again.

Some people have a very odd sense of humour. Bit like the woman putting the cat in the bin. Why would anyone get enjoyment our of the misery of another living thing? Most peculiar to my way of thinking

I'd slap her across the head with the toy and make her cry...then start laughing.. weirdo. x

I must be one of those odd people because baby crying to the "Michigan fight song" was hilarious to me... :haha:

Maybe its an american thing...

Ah well it takes all sorts to make the world go round. I'd slap anyone making my baby cry.

I agree... There are of course parents who use the michigan fight song to torture their children...

and parents who resort to violence whenever there is a problem which i'm sure the child will learn and practice once they get to school and someone does something they don't like..

i guess neither are bad parents, just different. But i'm sure thats not how one feels about the other..
