We went to scan the other day at 27 weeks and the baby was estimated to be 2 pounds 8 already! she was adorable with her little chubby cheeks. But does this mean a big baby is on the cards for me? They plotted some chart and she was a fraction above the line. Everything I have read suggests baby should weigh about 2 pound? so confusing

When I was pregnant with my last he weighed around 3lbs at 28 weeks and was 9lbs 10ozs born. They said between 28 weeks and 40 weeks they roughly triple in weight BUT just remember its just an estimate and your baby might weigh less than that at the minute, growth scans are known for being terribly inaccurate :flower:

Also babies put weight on rapidly during different times, she may have just finished a growth spurt and slow down for a while before packing it on at the end.

xx

At my 28 week scan, the baby was in the 90th percentile for all measurements and they suspected gestational diabetes, but when I had a scan last week he had dropped down to the 50th percentile for weight/length. So it's entirely possible that you've had a growth spurt, but that it'll slow down as you get further along.

Also, even the consultants admit that the estimated weight thing is a load of crap. I don't know why they bother telling us if it's so inaccurate! It seems to be a massive source of anxiety on these forums.

at my 32 week appointment my dr said the baby weighed 5LBs already which meant baby would possibly be 7-8 LBs born but he only had a feel of my stomach i havent had ne scans or anything and i have been measuring ahead all the way along like now im 33 weeks and im measuring 35cm

who knows what goes on in the womb lol they grow how they feel like it :)
