I cant find my old post so here goes :) We have decided to name our boy Silas Michael, but now I am kind of worried that Silas is going to suddenly be one of those crazy popular fad names that in 5-10 years we will hear a million of them around our sons age in school. What do you think?

I think it's a wonderful name. I guess we all take a chance when picking a not so common name. If I had a boy about 6 years ago I probably would of went for Liam and now it's super popular. I almost named my last Elijah and now thats very popular.lol So I hear your worry. I think you should be safe with Silas for a while. I don't know one baby named Silas.

I like the name Silas. I know one adult in his 30's and a one year old with the name. Doesn't seem very common to me.

I don't think it is common at all - I don't know anyone with that name!

nobody can predict the future. i think you just have to pick a name you love and stick with it. asher is becominga lot more popular but i still love the name for my lo - suits him perfectly!!

it doesnt seem very common at the moment :) and i think its a very cute name :flower:

A friend due in March is naming her LO Silas. Before her announcement, I've really never heard the name much. I think you'll be OK :)

I don't know anyone named Silas or who is naming their LO that name. As a PP said, only time will tell.

It does seem to be gaining popularity. Probably because of the show Weeds? That's where I heard the name for the first time.

Never even heard of it. Guess I best come out from under my rock :haha:

My name is Clare and at school there were tonnes of Claires but it didn't bother me at all. And interestingly now as an adult I don't know any!

There's nothing you can do about popularity. Any name you choose could suddenly become popular so I would choose a name that you love and one that suits your child as a baby, boy and man. Silas is lovely I think you should go for it :)

My two year old's name is Silas. We love the name and have only come across a couple others. I think it is gaining popularity, but I don't think its going to blow up to where there is several others with the same name in the kids class. My oldest son's name is Caden. My husband had the name picked out for a long time, but once we actually had a baby there were soooo many Aidans, Jaydens, Cadens, and etc. We have been really lucky with my 2nd son's name, Leland. The only other Lelands we know is the one on Dog the Bounty hunter and a 50 something year old man. :winkwink: Good luck deciding!

Love love love the name Silas. If the LO turns out to be a boy, we'll be naming him Silas Kent. Honestly, though, I haven't heard of it anywhere. I was actually surprised to see the name pop up here! I'd definitely say go for it, though. Even if it does become popular, you'll know you made a good choice. ;)

I feel like ive heard this name on BnB a lot lately, but I still really like it! Would use it for a future boy if OH liked it...

Is that guy off Hollyoaks called Silas?
xx

What is Hollyoaks? A show? I keep reading people say Silas is popular b/c of the show Weeds and Duck Dynasty, but Ive never seen either!

I love Silas because of those two shows (weeds and DD). I hope it doesn't catch on either, because that's a top-runner for us too!

I am surprised how much I am hearing it now that I picked it lol. But that doesnt sway me, I love it and have been calling him Silas for a bit now.
