Alex rarely burps/farts for me and he mostly seems content even when nothings come up. Could it be he just doesnt have any wind to come up?

The only way im telling if he is windy is his body goes rigid and hes fussing/crying, is that the right signs for wind?

Sounds windy. He might not get much but I'd say it's quite unusual for them to get none at all. Hebe didnt burp much but I wasnt concerned because she farted alot. You need to keep trying to wind him - you dont want a build up leading to colic or severe trapped wind in his bowels :D

hes very difficult to get anything either end, took 2 hours to get him settled down last night.

Chase was a very hard one to burp.

Some tricks I did for getting any wind out was to:

Bounce him gently on my knee.
Lay him down and gently bring his knees up to his chest.
Rock back and forth....as in leaning him back to almost laying position and then bringing him back up again.
If that failed, I'd stand up and put him on my shoulder and bounce him gently.

Gosh, I almost had to get him to do acrobatics at times. LOL

All else fails, lay him down for a few minutes and try again.

Then, if that doesn't work, gripe water is great for wind.

Rob picked up some gripe water yesterday but it says from 1 month onwards, cant use it for another 2 weeks.

Ah, didn't know that. On my bottle it has the dosage requirement for newborn babies so we can use it right away. :)

I used gripe water from 2 and a bit weeks - it's only peppermint water. I figured if she'd have been born 2 weeks early she would be a month old IYSWIM and she would have been full term etc. It used to have alcohol in it but it doesnt anymore. I think it's much quicker working than Infacol and more natural.

I remember Leeanne working out that bouncing Chase gently on her knee got his wind up so we did that too and it's very effective. I also hold Hebe's feet and push her knees into her tummy to a squatting position if she's struggling to poo so that might be worth a try - nappy off so keep a safe distance! :D

The tiger on a branch position really helped Niamh. When she was breastfed it was always hard to get wind up. Any sort of stretching, kicking legs out, arching the back, etc is all signs of wind. A lot of babies go a bit blue around the lips too.

A few other things to try are:

Rubbing the left side of their tummy. Don't know why the left side but it helps to get rid of some wind.

A warm cloth on the tummy.

A bath. That often relaxes the digestive system.

I also found with Chase that he would fall asleep and stay asleep longer on my shoulder/chest as it comforting to his tummy. Eventually, I had to let him sleep on his tummy as he slept longer in that position as when he was on his back the gas would bother him and wake him in a matter of moments.

Anyhow, hope you find something that helps him hon! :hugs:

thankfully sleeping isnt a problem once he is asleep, its just getting him settled again after feeding.
I will definatley try these and see what works. There has been a few times where sitting him up has got something so im thinking that one may work.

ill check the bottle Rob got (just incase its an older one, dont trust my chemist too much lol) though i think id still be a bit weary using it since it says not to on the box...

I meant the gripe water bottle lol, thanks for the link though always up for a freebie :D

Patrick never had wind when i was breastfeeding him but he does now hes bottle fed.We also found that bouncing on your knee gets it up and also stretching his legs out! Also laying him on his back flat for a few mins and then picking him up tends to move it...the HV told me this as its like when you lay a pop bottle down all the air rises to the top! We also gave gripe water earlier than it says on the bottle....in the end it never worked for us but also never did him any harm! xxx
