So here goes a bit of better eatting I'm hoping to lose some weight. I'd apprieciate any advise along the way so don't mind any comments First step was budgetting - We're doing a weekly shop & buying what we're eatting! Breakfast - Slice of toast Afternoon - Tinned soup or cupasoup Evening - *Spag bol with turkey mince made with chopped tomatoes & herbs with wheat pasta with healthy option/low fat cheese *Chicken breast & salad *Shepards pie with lamb mince, carrots & peas *Chicken supreme with wheat rice (made with soup & veg) *Gammon, pineapple & baby potatos *Cold ham salad *Stuffed peppers & baby potatos (no cheese) Once a month we're going to have steak & salad! Once a month we're going to have a roast dinner! Changes: Lots of fresh juices instea dof ribena, coke etc. Lots of water Semi skimmed milk instead of full fat Brown bread instead of white wheat rices & pastas No cheese with salads 1 sugar in coffee/tea instead of 2 No drinking Low fat dressing for salads Mince will be boiled before cooking (spag bol & shepards pie) Nothing will be fried My deep fryer is being locked away tomorrow All my junk food will be boxed tomorrow & used in the summer for BBQ party
Great idea to boil your mince, I do that and you want to see the scum that comes out! IMO, you're not eating enough in the day. You'll be so hungry by teatime you might 'fall off the wagon' and I bet your dinner portion will end up HOOOOOGE! I'd double the breakfast toast, and supplement both breakfast and lunch with lots of yoghurt, fruit and nuts/seeds to make sure you're getting some good fats (I notice there's no oily fish on your menu ) There's some great evening meal ideas though, I'm going to rob 'em! I was so hungover yesterday, I ate 2 jam doughnuts, chinese takeaway and loads of Celebrations BUT, internet food shop is coming today so my diet really starts NOW
Definatly agree with Minxy, your not doing yourself any favours eating that little during the day, you will starve, and although for the first week you will lose weight, you will then start storing fat cause you will be forcing your body into famine! A whole grain cerial would be better than toast (and you didnt mention what would be going on that toast) plus have like Minxy said healthy snacks during the day and have more than soup for lunch. Also your dinner options are okay but you have no fish in your diet oily or otherwise plus chicken is a great low fat meat which you could eat a hell of a lot more of.
See I don't usually eat breafast & tbh I don't usually have anything in the afternoon either apart from when I think 'I should' so I'm not really in any danger there of being a greedy cow & piling it all back on after I loose weight Cereal isn't really to my taste Did forget to say fruit will be there for snacks! Fish - YAK No fish in my house Thanks for the tips on chicken
That's why you need the nuts and seeds (or olives..mmmmmm!) Those healthy fats help you lose the bad stuff. Honest
This may be why you have dificultly with weight loss, as weird as it sounds you need to eat more to lose weight, and be healthy. if you eat too little for long enough your body adapts to this and will manage on it, without you getting hungry, however what this does is makes your body find ways of conserving energy, but sheading muscle tone for example cause that requires a lot of fuel, (hence body builders eating sh*t loads) however if your muscle density decreases, you store more fat instead, plus your organs stop working as hard, your body prioritises what needs the food most so takes it away from things like bones, hair, nails, skin etc which all then suffers, and you leave yourself open to more serious conditions like diabeties, depression, (slow down in production of seratonin) and osteoperosis, as well as fertility issues. If you find it hard to eat prekfast, and trus me I understand cause untill a while ago I could never stomach eating first thing in the morning, try to just have a fruit juice, smoothie or fruit tea first thing, then wait an hour or so before eating some sort of wholegrain cerial, cerial bar (not with too much sugar) or chopped banana with dry museli and a yogurt on top is great.
Sunflower, pumpkin, sesame. Sprinkled in yoghurt they're lovely! H + B do a salad sprinkle which is a mix of types. Best nuts are almond, brazil, walnut. They're oily and also contain lots of selenium and zinc. If you go for peanuts no salt!!
Cat thanks, I knew to eat healthy I had to eat so thought if I could stomach some toast & soup in the afternoon I'd be better than the 'nothing' I usually do. Still not fond of cereals mind may stick with toast x 2 & fruit for snacks! Can nuts be snacks?
Nuts can undeed be snacks! y OH has them in his lunch box each day instead of crisps. And its a lot more filling too. The cheapest way to do it is to buy in bulk and stick it into a tupperware container and scoop out a handfull each day to munch on. You can get them from your supermarket, health food shop (where your likely to get deals) and market stalls a best. Get a mix of nuts and seeds and dried fruit, this is all round great for your diet!
Some great tips here Ive fallen into the same sort of routine as wobbs, def some changes i need to make!
omg im prob gunna sound a ryt gimp but how do u boil mince?? is it with water then drained or am i just silly?
Hi Wobs, hope you dont think Im taking over your thread, but Ithought it might give you some ideas and help with your diet if I give you an idea of what I would consider a healthy diet plan. This is non expensive and much how I eat in a normal shooping budget, that is minimal fuss and easy to make. Breakfast. Fruitjuice, smoothie or Fruit Tea Whole grain cerial with semi skimmed or skimmed milk preferably oat or quinola not wheat as most people have to much gluten in their diet (plus is bloats) Midmorning Large handfull of mixed dried fruit, nuts and seeds (easy on the nuts, as heavy in calories but very healthy) seeds like sunflower or pumpkin Lunch Fresh cartooned soup from chiller in super market, or make your own. (not tinned) plus wholemeal crusty roll or Salad with hard boiled egg, or chicken or tuna etc, with a low fat dressing or Wholemeal sandwiches with turkey bacon griled, and tomatos and lettice or Crumpets with tomato puree, mozarrella, and pieces of ham, sweetcorn, mushrooms etc like mini pizzas grilled followed by a yogurt Mid Afternoon 1 or 2 pieces of fresh fruit Dinner Roasted Winter veg (sweet potato, carrots, peppers, squash, courgettes, parsnips, basically any vag all on a tray with some olive oil, whole garlic cloves, and a little rosemary cooked for about 45mins. With grilled chicked, lean steak, lamb or anything. or Stir fry, loads of veg with chicken or pork or prawns and noodles or rice or Fish like Salmon or Tuna, with couscous and veg or Chicken casserole with baking potatoes TIP:Tpo same money try to buy your fruit and veg from local green grocers, they are often about half the price of super markets, as your buying local seasonal produce as oposed to stuff that has been shipped from the other side of the globe and its fresher too, not several weeks old having been kept in a chiller in transit, so retains more goodness. Hope this is of some use, and as you can see its a lot of food so you shouldnt find yourself hungry and it is all healthy, not just low fat.
Not at all! It all helps. we all find our owns ways but we can pick up & use other peoples tips I may look into the nuts & seeds but I am not overly a nutty eatter breakfast - See I know changing ways isn't good but I've never been a breakfast eater more afternoon & evening so maybe it won't make much of a difference although I may go with a cuppa & a glass of fresh juice - We bought some last night (not concentrated) Soup - I bought slimfast cupasoups & figured I could go with one of them instead of coffee & fruit, sandwich or something! I also bought brown bread & healthy living ham Tinned soup btw is that bad? I make chicken supreme which is with cambells chicken soup although again I bought the low fat one Basically my shopping list was as follows: Pure juices (none concentrated) Brown bread healthy living cheese healthy living ham brown pasta brown rice chicken fillets gammon healthy living mince (there was no turkey) lamb mince cambells soup - low fat (chicken supreme) tinned tomatoes garlic all herbs etc for spag bol salad stuff - lettuce cucumber mushrooms an so on grapefruit baby potatoes potatoes for ShepardÂs pie peas carrots green milk pineapple An once a mo nth we're having steak with salad & a roast dinner!
not a bad shopping list, could have done with a bit more fruit and veg, although like I said you will get it all a lot cheaper froma greengrocers. Im not a huge nut lover at all, so Itend to try to do my mix more with interesting dried fruit, like dried cranberries, and pears and apple rings and mango and stuff. As for soups, tinning anything is never great, its not that its bad for you its just not good for you, think what tinned veg are like compared to fresh or frozen. They are great though for a cheap sauce, I use campbells condensed muchroom soup for a chicken dish I do. The sachet type soups are worse as they have been heavily processed and frieze dried, like a pot noodle! If you opt for the fresh soups you are getting a hell of a lot for nutrients, plus they taste a million times better. You do want to look at eating lots of food, compared to what you eat currently try to introduce more food gradually then it wont be so hard to stomach.
