my 5 week old daughter is fine all day being breast fed, then when she has her funny 2 hour grottyness between 8-10pm she just screams when she comes near my breasts but happy to take a bottle.... is there any reason why? she is fine again when she wakes at about 2-3am...

Kara I don't want to read and run! But I don't know! Does she take a lot of milk from the bottle in the evening when she has one? It's really hard when LO does something random like that! :hugs:

yes she is happy to take the bottle... i have tried everything, i try not to give in but after hours of screaming i have no choice, i thought maybe she just knows if she cries she will get what she wants but she is fine all day.. just so strange its late at night at the same time. She will go on the breast after when she has calmed down. very strange

Thanks for posting, lack of replies means no one else has ever had the same problem... she started being unique early.. joy !

How strange, I've had a similar thing! Just before bed time she HAS to have a bottle, breast just doesn't cut it. She will feed off each boob for about 5 minutes before spitting them out. I've tried winding her after each mini feed but she will just start crying then only having a boob max 5 mins. She will then have anything between 20mls and 60mls from a bottle before being satisfied? Very odd x

Sounds like we have the problem, I gave in today and gave her 4oz of formula, it's
Been the best night since she was born, she didn't scream for 3 hours as normal, she was put in her cot at 10 wide awake, spent an hour talking to herself and then went to sleep...

If I have to give her a bottle every night just to keep her this happy then so be it.. But would love to know why she is like this...

Maybe the formula just scratches an itch, it fills LOs up quicker as it's full of protein? J had 90mls tonight before falling asleep. She was being so fussy at the breast so ended up giving it to her earlier than usual. It's given me 6 hours sleep for the past 2 nights, bliss!! It makes such a difference to my mental well being. Happy mum = happy baby = happy neighbours lol xx

Exactly, if she is happy and contented whats the harm.she now takes over 4 oz at night, which makes me wonder if my supply is too low for her at night...I guess I'll never find out... But maybe it might be a good night time routine which includes sleep for us both lol

Your milk flow is usually faster in the morning and decreases gradually into the evening. It also gets fattier in the evening, but its likely harder to get. She has to work hard in the evening, but having a bottle of formula is quicker and more satisfying quicker.

My lo is the same. He has his bottle every evening, it doesn't bother me. He is happy and goes off to sleep.

I was wondering the same thing! But as previos poster said, it's thicker in the evening. I didn't know that, it sounds much more likely that we have lazy babies lol xx
