you are legally required to tell your employer by 25 weeks of pregnancy so that you can get paid SMP. However, you won't be entitled to smp anyway as you haven't been working there long enough.

Obviously your pregnancy will start to show after you start there but you can't be sacked for being pregnant. Unfortunately when your probation is up you will be very obviously pregnant so they may decide to let you go after the probation rather than let you have maternity leave, but I don't know if they can do it without good reason. In any case if they like you they may be happy to let you have the 9 months off and take you back after. You will still be able to claim Maternity Allowance from the Jobcentre, but your employers won't have to pay for that.

For now, don't tell them, settle in for a few weeks if you'd rather. The law is there to protect you but I do know what it is like for people on trial periods who get let go for all sorts of dubious reasons.

good luck!

OK - first of all, what does the daddy say? perhaps you could sit down with him and discuss financial stuff before you start stressing?

second, they cannot fire you for being pregnant; so, take the job and tell them you are pregnant; apologise for the inconvenience, but not for being pregnant. Be careful, some women aren't too sympathetic but had you been trying long? perhaps say, I'm so excited about this job, BUT guess what?

any other ideas, ladies?

best wishes

You should just be honest and tell them, they can't fire you for being pregnant and they can't use it as an excuse for not passing the probation period - as for not being entitled to SMP, that is true but you should be entitled to Maternity Allowance - which is the same buy it's paid directly from the government (job centre) rather than paid by by your employer (and then claimed back!!) xx
