Would a feed have made him heavier?

Hi ladies,

Hope this doesn't sound like a really dizzy question. Just a little worried about my baby boy's weight gain...

Last week when he was weighed he had only gained 3 oz in 7 days . Prior to that he had twice gained 7oz over 6 day periods.

The HV wasn't concerned as he is still growing on the same percentile but looking at the sticky thread above he should be doing 5.5 - 7 oz a week.

What I'm wondering is - would he have weighed a bit heavier if he'd had a feed? We'd been out for a few hours and he slept the whole time and had to wake him to weigh him so he hadn't eaten for 3 hrs. Would this have made him lighter by ozs? I don't know how much they take at this age.

Sorry if this sounds really stupid. Just concerned if I am no longer growing him well enough.

He is gaining so don't worry :flower:

Anything can make a difference of oz. If they have just gone to the bathroom or if they have/haven't had a feed. Try not to worry :flower:

Yes, it could have made a difference.

My midwife said I had to feed him just before she arrived to help with his weight as they were so concerned with his weight gain in the first 2 weeks.

She said she has saw a gain of 1.5oz difference just after a feed - not my LO but from her experience.

From 2 weeks to 9 weeks my LO was gaining 7 oz per week, but from 9-11 weeks it has been just 3.5 oz per week:flower:

Is there any reason you're having him weighed weekly still? Once babies have regained their birthweight they should only be weighed once a month as a maximum xx

If he's following his centile, then he's growing exactly as expected. Don't get too hung up in weight, as long as there are plenty of wet nappies and your LO is awake and alert between feeds and hitting milestones.

Agree with summer rain, though. Any reason for such frequent weigh-ins?

Oh, he's my first - I thought we were meant to have him weighed every week to see he's doing ok.
I'm clueless

Yes, it will make a difference. Especially where he is being weighed that often. He should be weighed monthly or less. If you had fed him in the past hour or so, he would have weighed a good 2-3 oz more at least.

if he had a full stomach/bowel/bladder the weigh in before that, that could also have overstated last week's growth and understated this week's. i think thats why they've changed the red books now to only recommend u weighing them once a month - u get a more balanced average picture over time xx
