Hi All

I just wanted to ask a little question my LO is 11 months old so obviously i have no plans to potty train him yet. But my LO has resently developed this new thing where he pees all over the place whilst we are changing his morning nappy. Im not sure why but hes been doing it without fail for a little while now

SO i was thinking of getting him a potty to sit him on first thing when i take his night nappy off. Thought it would stop the mess we have every morning but also that it would get him used to the potty.

My OH worry is that it might cause a prolem later when we ACTUALLY potty train him.

Just wanted to get your opinions as you all have toddlers and are likely going through the whole potty training and you might know of a prolem it may cause that ive not concidered?

Honesty I can't see that it would hurt.

Some people do this from birth, it's called elimination communication and they go by their babies cues and the clock and put them on the potty or toilet each time.

No personal experience but met a lady who had her 9 month old potty trained. She would pay attention to the signs of her LO needing a wee/poo and she would put her on the potty. Her child is now 2 years-ish and has not worn a nappy since. I think you could try googling it or check in Natural Parents section there might be some more info.

I'd do it...both my boys were dry in the day at 12months. Ive always left the potty around and given them the freedom to choose if they want to...which as little boys they get very excited weeing in a potty when they figure out they can do it! Ds1 used to say 'wu' at first and sit on but ds2 will grab his willy/pants like he needs it.

Definitely go for it, it can't cause any problems and can only help in my opinion. It will raise his awareness of when he is peeing and what the potty is eventually used for.

I think as long as he doesn't show any resistance to it then there is no harm in it.

Our little boy isn't potty trained yet, but he does use his potty occasionally. He's not at the point where he realises that he's doing it but sometimes he will go and sit on it.

I think this is going to help us massively when we do do it...it'll only help!

Thanks Ladies

I brought a little potty for him and sat him on it and he was bouncing up and down on it happily

No wee wee in it yet but we been to my mums this weekend so didnt really bother actually using it just left it around for him to see

we home now so will try it

I put LO on the potty for a few minutes when I change her. If nothing else it gets her used to it for when she does start using it.

I can't see it doing any harm. I sit LO on the potty when I go to the bathroom so he understands what to do and I read him this "potty book" we have. He's never gone potty though and I do it every single day! I think as long as your LO isn't scared, you'll be fine doing it!

think i going to need to buy a decent one - without his nappy on i can tell the plasstic hurts him when he sits down on it :(:(
