Seeing as one day I hope to complete my course and work as one!

Would you ever use a personal trainer? If not, why not?

If you are on the fence, what things would sway you into giving one a go? Is price a major issue? None in your area? Feeling under confident about exercise?

If you currently use one, what do you like about having a personal trainer?

Thanks guys :)

i would. ive thought about it in the past just never had the money. i loved going to the gym and with the amount of weight i have to shift the extra help would be great

The prices can be enormous, around here they are about £40 a hour.

I always associate personal trainers with celebrities!!....... I would definately use one, but no money! No time!!... would need one of those pram pushing and baby lifting routines!!!............i would use one to tone up rather than lose weight x

I would definately if I had the money, ones round here are about £35 an hour upwards xx

I would but again it's a money issue for me

Oh and if you could have a personal trainer speak to you online, and work out routines for you in the comfort of your own home, with regular progress reports, etc for a few pounds a month rather than a huge hourly rate - would you use it?

Thanks girls, am hoping to address the price issue myself and make fitness and proper nutrition more accessible for people. :)

What would you all pay per hour for a personal trainer if you were to use one?

hmmm possibly, would it also include instructions on healthy eating etc. as I know that's a big issue for a lot of people (and was for me)

Yep. :) Without going into too much detail, it will be very in depth. Live chats with your own personal trainer, online recipes, task lists, articles, groups, lots and lots of downloadable content including motivational music to exercise to, podcasts....everything tailored to each individual person for a monthly subscription price that doesn't cost the earth.

I'd let you come and whoop my ass (in a personal trainer way only of course!) x

Wouldn't use one as can keep fit on my own.

Google is a fab place these days for info

Helps being married to a body builder too :haha:

Good luck in your venture :D

I would do the monthly subscription thing. I would also hire a personal trainer if they were cheaper xx

I work in the fitness industry (in admin though!) and have several colleagues who are personal trainers as a sideline. One offered me 'mates rates' of £30/hour - I nearly fell over! I think there is a vicious cycle of not many clients pushing price up, and high price putting potential clients off. I also found that the number of hours required per week was typically quite vague, and I prefer to know where I stand with the cash outlay. Information on diet/exercising alone etc would be a useful addition to the service, although unless I was getting full meal-plans I wouldn't want to pay much extra for it.

I am aware that there is an initial outlay for equipment etc, but if you're going to a clients home or public spaces to train the overheads are pretty low, and I personally think a price tag of £10-15 per hour would be a reasonable rate to attract business, unless you're based somewhere ridiculously rich like Belgravia or somewhere

Thanks hun. :) I share your opinion about the cycle of pricing.

IMO fitness and nutrition information from professionals should be more widely available. I would rather charge someone less, and have more clients and know that my client could call on me when needed than have a couple of clients who pay me a lot.

A friend of mine and her husband exercise together with a PT and it costs them £75 an hour!

I've worked with people in the fitness industry before through my previous job as a sales & marketing manager, and I think there is a gap for what I'm wanting to do. We'll see though!

Oh I would use the online thing, sounds fab.

I would love, love a personal trainer. I need someone to push me, and I know a personal trainer could give me that but live in London and so it costs an absolute fortune.

I have a personal trainer and I LOVE her! I go through phases where I am very dedicated to working out on my own and other times when I slack so she's good to help keep me motivated. Even if I don't do anything else I work out with her and it helps keep me active. It also helps me eat better throughout the week because I don't want to pay for nothing. I've been meeting with her for about 3 years. It's $40 an hour. Not cheap, but I make it work. I never eat out for lunch and I figure a lot of people easily spend $40 eating out for lunches and buying expensive coffee each morning.

Depends what he looked like:shrug:. If he was hot I'd use him in the morning, lunchtime and the evening :sex:
