hey i'm going to start TTC late April. My final dissertation is due mid April and i'm struggling to complete it. I drank redbull the other day for the first time in ages and i managed to get loads of work done. I spoke to my friend about it and she said she took ProPlus caffeine pills when she was doing her disso and it really helped. I'm all for trying them if they help but does anyone know if they have any long term effects? Should i be avoiding caffeine now if i'm not planning to TTC for a few months? I really need to get this work done but i'll find another way if it will harm my health/reproductive system in any way. Thanks x

Do you drink a lot of caffeine normally? I take them sometimes, but find as I don't drink a lot of coffee etc. they effect me quite badly haha, definitely give you energy but made me a bit shaky and nauseous (just like if you suddenly drank a really strong coffee I guess). I don't think they have any long term effects as it is just a high dose of caffeine. But you still do have a bit of time, so i'd probably recommend just eating healthily and foods which give you energy, take lots of breaks, get fresh air and sleep well at night! Then if you really feel you need to, try them later on.

i drink tea and occasionally iced coffee, but that makes me cozy more than anything haha. Redbull and a wispa is literally the only thing that has remotely helped. I always take a sip of water between every sip though to help with headaches and drink slowly. I've tried healthy eating but i need to submit my draft asap and have to write another 8000 words so not really any time left! Thanks!

I am an energy drink fiend, I am going to stop when we start TTC in preparation for pregnancy, I think cold turkey in pregnancy will be hard lol. As a guide when you're pregnant you can have 200-300mg of caffeine a day, red bull has 80mg in a standard can.

Haha, i'm the same really....I have all these great ideas of how i'll prepare, but when it comes down to it...I end up drinking loads of red bull/lucozade and staying up all hours to get things done! Good luck with the draft! I think you'll be fine though, if you're not ttc at the moment, don't think there's any problem!

awesome! thanks for those guidelines marinewag, they're higher than i thought!!
fantastica- thanks! its tough, but i hope to get through on caffeine and sugar high haha 'the best laid plans...' !

I was surprised too, I kept drinking one energy drink a day until I was in second trimester as I was knackered in the first trimester and had to drive 80 miles a day, I want to cut them out next time though because although alone it isn't directly damaging as didn't get caffeine from anywhere else, it doesn't exactly offer much goodness lol!! Caffeine is related to low birth weight, labour jokes aside nobody wants a low birth weight for their baby :)

If you're used to drinking caffeine, then they probably won't affect you much. Basically all I drink is diet coke and I have a weak spot for energy drinks, so I have a very high tolerance for caffeine! (dreading weaning myself off that when we TTC!). I don't think caffeine tablets are too bad for you, although obviously worse than caffeinated drinks, we used to take them when I was about 15-16

If it's a short term fix, it shouldn't cause any problems health wise, you may find your body becomes slightly reliant on caffeine otherwise.
