So my sister asked me what my LOs wanted for xmas. I gave her a list based on what she likes to play with at home and at the nanny's - animals figurines, books, building blocks, things to copy mommy and daddy like fake shopping basket, cooking stuff, fake tools, dolls...

She asked me if my DD1 liked Hello Kitty, I said No - she knew who she was, but was just not interested by her (I say this because the same sister bought me loads of Hello Kitty DVDs and toys for DD1 when she was born and DD1 doesn't touch any of it). I said Peppa Pig is more her style (based on the 1000 times I've seen every episode).

So what do I get in post for the LO1 from her Auntie.... HELLO KITTY DVD box set and Hello Kitty toys.

:dohh:

Was I not clear?

How annoying! Why did she bother asking?! Do you think she gets some kind of deal on Hello Kitty stuff?!

My sister is a huge Hello Kitty fan so if you can imagine a 40year dressed in Hello Kitty gear and has a Hello Kitty handbag and a Hello Kitty credit card etc... that's my sister.

Luckily my DD1 is more down to earth. The toys are OK as DD1 doesn't HATE Hello Kitty so she will play with the toys just as toys and not as Hello Kitty toys, but the DVDs are just space wasters as she won't watch it.

I'm annoyed because she had asked me...

Sounds like your sister was buying more for herself, and not for your lo. I had fun imagining her head to toe in Hello Kitty!!

Are they still in wrappers that you could return? Honestly, if you aren't going to use them ever, that's what I would do rather than just have them taking up space not ever getting used.

Hmm, could you ebay the stuff and buy something your lo would enjoy instead? Or if your sis is that into hello kitty regift them to her next year?!

I'd look for somewhere to return the DVDs too, seems pointless having them if she won't watch them or Ebay them and get something your DD would want with the cash. Another option is to keep them for a year and if she doesn't watch them then you could pass them on to some of the charities who give to under privileged kids.

Regifting is hard as the DVDs are in french and the only little girl I know the same age as my DD1 is her cousin who is English. "Joyeux Noel" is written all over the box so it's Xmas so I can't give them for birthdays....
EBay may be my only option.

This is really typical of my sister. When she bought the first round of hello kitty goods for my DD1, she had also bought a hello kitty chun li doll for DD1. My sister thought that it was too cute and then she decided to keep it for herself. It:-s . If she was going to keep it why did she show it to me beforehand?! Like "Look at the gifts I bought for your baby. Oh this one is too cute and baby won't appreciate it anyway so I think I'll keep it!".It took all my inner strength to keep my eye rolling to a minimum. She really does live in her own world full of big headed bow wearing cats with no mouths.

So I don't know why I expected her to listen to me when I said "no hello kitty please.. DD1 prefers Peppa Pig".

Lol sounds just like my mum. Always asks what Joni wants, always gets something totally different. I don't even mind, but why ask?! Last year I found a lovely xylophone in my mum's fave shop so suggested that...got a push along walker (actually a really nice one, but we already had three other versions) and this year I suggested a play-doh set...she's bought a glove puppet (again a really nice one, but my dad and MIL have both bought glove puppets too).

I don't mean to sound ungrateful...I honestly don't mind what she gets and Joni definitely doesn't miss out...but why bother asking??! Doesn't make any sense!!

That would be annoying for sure- obviously you are grateful for any gift, but why bother aking if you dont' listen?! So silly- and such a waste of money for her too considering your daughters aren't interested! Oh well. I'd re-gift what I could and sell the rest or give it away! :haha: It's not like you didn't tell her.

Next time she asks- just say "whatever you feel is best"- that way you aren't even wasting your time ;) LOL
