My lo is in the 0.4 percentile. He is remaining on that curve do the Hv are not concerned. He is 11 weeks now and over the last 7 days sttn about 4 times. I'm really worried he will not be getting enough milk. He is bf. should I wake him at night or let him sleeps. He goes to sleep 10-11pm and wakes 6/7am. I'm really grateful and lucky he does this. But now worried he's gone from 3 to 2 to 1 to 0 night wakings. So to wake or not to wake? That is the question!

Hmmm tricky one, normally I would say never wake a sleeping baby.. Its entirely up to u, even though the HVS aren't worried I think I probably would be so might attempt feeding him in the night without waking him too much x

Hi there.

My son was also on the 0.4th centile til around 8 weeks - then he started sleeping longer stretches then his weight went right off the bottom of the charts!!!

He is also breastfed.

I met breastfeeding advisors for advice, we tried topping up with expressed milk -and sometimes even a couple oz formula which didnt help.

Then I started waking him at 16wks......I would not let him sleep more than 4hrs - set my alarm to get up - it is actually easier to wake to an alarm than a screaming baby!

From when I started that his weight shot up!!! I have not changed his day feeds - just at night. From 9-15wks he was gaining average 3.5 oz per week. From when I started waking him at night, 16wks-now at 20wks he has gained 6 oz per week.

I would start now, in a few weeks more his weight will drop off I think if you leave him to sleep.

Good luck!:flower:

Just an idea, but have you tried/thought about dreamfeeding? Maybe a dreamfeed before you go to bed might help your LO gain some weight without interrupting his sleep?

That being said, dreamfeeding didn't work for us (my LO woke up each time) but if the HV isn't concerned then I would let him sleep :flower: Just my opinion though!

my LO STTN from 6pm till 6-7am doesnt wake at all. but she makes up for feeds through the day. My LO is FF tho. I was worried she would lose weight doing that but shes gaining very well. she started at 5 weeks old

How many feeds to you get in during the day? If you're feeding at least every 3 hours during the day then maybe your LO is getting enough. My LO STTN from about 9-10 weeks, she was on the 50th centile though. I think I remember reading somewhere that as long as they're 8 weeks or older and 10lbs or more then it's ok for them to STTN

I didnt no that... oopps LO was 5 weeks and only 8lb then lol

My LO is on the 2nd percentile and is sleeping through the night and has been for 3 weeks. Im not waking her up as when I tried she suckled for a couple of minutes then when back to sleep. I just make sure that she eats at least every 3 hours during the day and she's gaining around 5oz per week.

ha ha - that might have been referring to BF babies though. I just remember being worried that my LO STTN all of a sudden and whether or not I should wake her. I think when FF then you've got a much better idea of how much milk is going in so maybe you don't need to worry so much!!!

my child is a ganet so defo no worries lol. It was only when we started FF she acctually slept properly.

My DD is a tiddler (50th centile born, then 9th for ages, now 2nd) too, she STTN from an early age, she was bf until 8 months and I have never woken too feed. My HV was also not concerned. She did feed frequently through the day and was awake, alert and content so I didn't feel the need to wake her for a feed. I am also babyled and was keen to allow her to fall into her natural routine.

Personally I wouldn't wake her, ok she's small but she must be getting enough during the day or she'd wake babies are designed to wake when hungry. You've got a sleeper be grateful for it. I wouldn't want to risk upsetting that lovely routine that she's in.

As long as you are getting lots of wet and dirty nappies or the BF pooplosions I wouldn't worry about the charts. Have you checked where you and DH are on the adult bit of the charts?

I would think it doesn't really matter where your baby is on the chart as long as long as she's not sliding down it.

I wouldn't wake her as long as her gain is consistent and doesn't suffer for the extra sleep.

This happened to my LO,prettymuch the exact same and I was really confussed about what to do in the end. It was alot of trial and error. I would wake her for night sleep but she was sooo sleepy she would ounly take an oz and be sound asleep refusin to take anymore. In the best solution for us was to cluster feed between 4pm-8pm..for example she took a feed at 6.30am,9.30am,1pm,4pm,6pm and bedtime feed at 8pm when she would stay sleeping whole night. x

I let my baby sleep. After a few days, he started eating more during the day to compensate for the lack of night feeds, and his weight gain did slow down a little but not much.

He just hit 10lbs and started sttn!
we get 6 feeds in. usually 7am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm, 7pm and 10pm.

he fell into this routine about a week ago, he stays awake for about 90 minutes and then sleeps for about 90 minutes.
