1 cm dilated...does it mean anything?

Ok, so I know that no one can really answer this question. I've been having a lot of contractions and am 1 cm dilated, which I guess it means it could be soon, or I could still have a while yet to go...just wondering what others' experiences were. How long did it take before you went into labor after being 1 cm dilated?

You could be at 1 cm dilated for weeks! Have sex, go for walks, be active, BUT get plenty of sleep while you still can.

Oh, and this is my first, so no experience. I'm just going by what I've seen. My sister was 1 cm dilated for a month and never went into labor. lol

Ive been 1cm dilated since week 32/33 and here I am at 38 weeks still 1cm dilated...

Yeah I was 1cm last week and since then I have been trying everything to get further along so this week the doc checked me and I was only 1.5 cm dialated. I was like what...oh well I guess its gonna be a waiting game with this one.

Ah bless you good luck for when it happens. I totally understand what its like waiting at end my mum had me and sis both 2 wks early so at 38 wks i was ready for action she didnt come for another 4 wks - 1 day before 42 wks. I couldnt speak by 1 wk overdue. Ive never been so frustrated in my life. My advice is do something to take your mind off it & then if it happens sooner its a bonus. I did these things & none worked -: ate curry, ate pinapple, walked miles, had sex, rubbed clary sage into bump, rubbed sperm into bump (i read it somewhere), had warm baths, spent £ on reflexology and drank gallons of rasp tea. Then 4 days after i did nothing labour started. Good luck nearly 5 weeks at most to wait is way better than 38 or 20 even. Xx

Soon5kids, how far along are you?

I am 38+2 and praying and hoping that I don't go over like I did with my 1st.

For me I had pains starting on August 3rd. At 11pm on August 6th I was 1-2cm. I gave birth at 07:42am on August 7th

With my first pregnancy I was 1 cm dilated at 30 weeks (checked because I was having tons of contractions) and didn't deliver until 40+6. My mom was 4 cm dilated for 2 weeks. You just never know because some women who aren't dilated at all, go into labor that day!

It means you're 1/10th of the way there!

Sorry not much more help--as others have said, some people can go weeks at 1 and others can go from 0-10 in a matter in hours. Hope it happens for you soon.
