After extensive searching I've read that bf babies can go longer between pooing because of the milk being easier to digest

We're on day 3 now of no proper poo (her last one was wednesday) and Olivia is getting upset and uncomfortable when she tries to go :nope:

She's passing wind when she strains and yesterday did manage to do a (much smaller than what we've been used to) poo, which was a normal colour and consistency. But because of the straining and discomfort I will admit I'm a bit worried and on the verge of calling for a weekend Dr's appointment

Just wondering if anyone has any advice or suggestions as to what I can do to help her please?

My wee one was terrible at that age. Have you tried baby massage? If you look online you will get videos. It really helped us! We also gave her water, your wee one could be a bit dehydrated. Just 1 or 2 oz if you have got a bottle. Also a long deep bath might help. We found stretching her legs out then pushing them to her chest and holding them there helped too.

You could also try a drop of infacol to help with the wind, just give her it before feeding.

As she pooped yesterday, albeit less than usual, I don't think she needs an emergency appt as they will probably just ask you to do the above.

Bicycle her little legs to see if that gets some things moving.

Sorry to PP, but PLEASE do not give your baby water. Breastfed babies get all the water they need from your milk. So unless your doctor recommends it, it could potentially do more harm than good. Babies are not meant to drink water until they start solids. As you said, it's totally normal to go longer than a formula fed baby between poos. Sorry your LO is uncomfortable. Hopefully she will pass it soon!

Thank you for the suggestions <3 I'll give them a try

She has plenty of wet nappies so I am reluctant to say she could be dehydrated

She has done one today, about the size of a 5p piece, and again the same colour and consistency as normal

My baby went through a few phases of not going poo real well. My doctor AND lactation consultant told me it was completely normal for breastfed babies to not go up to a week! Doesnt that sound terrible? Apprently the milk is more absorbed in the baby then formula is. I know my baby sounded like she wanted to go, or i would have small amounts in the diaper as well. Was really concerned about it but it all worked out just fine.

She did a giant one this morning :happydance:

Not an explosion but it came very close, I think we caught it because we were looking out for it. She seems so much more content in herself again now <3

Yeah my LO goes days without pooping!

Glad she pooped eventually x

Glad she pooped. Was just going to say baby massage and DO NOT give your baby water. She is wayyy too young.

Z really likes it when I rub his feet, it helps with gas. If you look up "reflexology feet map" you will see

She didn't go again yesterday, but I'm not sure how much of that was down to the blowout she had the day before. Just need to remember to keep spare clothes in her changing bag because there's no way her nappies were keeping hold of those poops, I'm just thankful we caught them in time :haha:

As they get older they poop less! Good rule of thumb, if she is happy between meals and spends some time awake and seems like her usual self (aside from the straining to poo) AND her poo looks regular, everything is good!

How cool would it be if babies could talk and say "Mom, I'm fine! Now take me for a walk!"

It would be amazing

Another poo today. Never thought I'd be so happy about her pooing two days in a row :haha:
