Not sure whether to post here or in baby section?

My 10 month old has done really well with weaning in that she will eat finger foods really well and has done from the start. If we spoon fed her she was always reluctant so,we just went down an inadvertent BLW route I guess. However, if I do,try and spoon feed her anything, she doesn't seem to take the spoon properly in her mouth if that make sense? My DS set to eat from a spoon properly but DD has always kind of sucked any food off.
Could this just be from teething maybe? She has been teething since we started weaning her.

Also, I'm wondering how much she should be eating. I know milk is meant to be their main source of nutrition for now but it's really hard to try and get her to have breakfast because of timings. She doesn't want it first thing which is fair enough, so she has a breast feed or a bottle of formula and then she's asleep by 10am and doesn't wake until nearer to lunchtime so breakfast kind of gets written off. I'm guessing this is ok?! Not much I can do about it I suppose!

It sounds like she's doing really well, I always went by the "food is for fun before one" motto and didn't worry too much about how much he ate as long as I offered healthy options. I think in your case I would just give the option of sliced fruit/half a banana/veggie muffin etc while you eat your breakfast and if she doesn't eat it then that's fine. Have you tried putting some bits out in a mat/plate on the floor or low table rather than a structured mealtime in the highchair?

Babies who aren't spoon fed often don't really eat off a spoon like we would expect them to to start. It's just a whole new way of eating if you've been using to feeding yourself with your hand. We did BLW and I remember when my daughter started nursery at 9 months, they tried to spoon feed her something because it took them awhile to figure out what they should be offering her when I said 'just normal foods'. They said the exact same thing, that she ate off the spoon really strangely. But a few months later, she started to self feed with a spoon and was fine. They just need practice, but that will happen in time, no need to overthink it now or worry you need to get her eating a certain way off a spoon. It sounds like she's done really well feeding herself all this time.

As for breakfast, I would probably get in the habit of regularly sitting down and offering breakfast whenever everyone else eats. But if she's just had a milk feed, then she may not hungry. That's fine. One day she will be. You might even find that in the next few months you start to offer solids before milk and then she might have more interest. I know to start my daughter used to have a milk feed and then breakfast and would eat loads of breakfast. But then probably around 13 months or so, she wouldn't really have any interest in breakfast. At that point, I was comfortable starting to cut down on her milk feeds as she was still having milk at other times of the day and was eating solids well. We cut out the first milk of the day and she started to have an interest in breakfast again. It might be too early to do that now, but I would at least get in the habit of sitting with her and eating your breakfast and letting her have bits to feed herself. You'll probably eventually see her show more interest. If nothing else, you get to eat your breakfast.

Thanks ladies! It's reassuring to hear.

She sits with us for every meal and I will offer her breakfast but she's not that in to it so I will carry on as we are and not stress about it!

Angel, she has had some sliced pear yesterday afternoon. First time she had it completely raw and she loved it so will try that st breakfast time. She has snacks on the floor sometimes and I sometimes do an indoor picnic for my toddler but I havent for a while so I may reintroduce that with lots of finger foods.

Thanks again!

I think it also depends on the schedule your baby likes. For my LO morning milk was at 6am (uggh) so by 8:00 she was easily hungry enough for breakfast, but she also wasn't a great mapper so we had loads of time to fit all the milk feeds and solid food in.
