Im sure this has been asked a million times before but its stressing me out.
Archie was 10lb7oz at birth and i solely breatfed til day 10 when he was weighed and was down to 9lb2oz, MW advised to top him up as he was hysterical most of the time. Since then we've slowly introduced bottles and he's now on majority bottles, topped up with breast. He's currently on 4oz bottles, which he wants every 2-3hours, i sometimes extend this by giving him breastmilk instead. Anyhow 4oz bottles aren't really satisfying him all the time, would it be ok to up to 5oz bottles? im just worried that he's not even 3 weeks yet but seems to be hungry a lot of the time.

Hi hun, my daughter was 10lb 8 1/2oz born and had dropped to 9lb 4oz after a week or so, which is completely normal, the growth chart usually does a tick shape - a big drop after losing the fluids and meconium and only having colostrum if breast fed and then start to gain steadily. I can't really advise on quantities because I bf until 12 weeks but I would feed him little and often on demand to stop him getting hysterical but it might be worth chatting to your mw or switching to hungry formula, although this can make them constipated x x good luck

We have made 5oz bottls since Ollie was 2 weeks. He mainly took 4oz but occassionally needed more. Even now at 6 weeks we make 5oz but he now drinks the lot so looking at upping them. My HV said this was fine and worked really well as he wasn't getting stressed out all the time. Hope this helps, take care :hugs: xx

Feed the little man till his tummy is full :) Put about an ounce more in the bottle than you expect he'll eat. My guy was 10lb 9oz at birth, and had anywhere from 2-6oz per feeding every 3 hrs at that point.

Sorry forgot to say, he had these every 3 hours and now its every 3 to 4 hours, xx

I would put about 2oz more than you think he'll drink into the bottle and offer every 3 hours. I would not wait until he cries.

Thanks gilrs thats great, we gave him a 5 oz bottle in the night which he took no problem so i might do them all as 5oz from now on, thanks for the replies, helps me realise im not alone with a big hungry baby!!
