Well my son is 11 months old today and still not talking... Not sure if that's normal or not! Is anyone else's baby just not saying any words? He babbles constantly but it's just nonsense. He is going through a phase of saying mostly "lurgi durgi lurgi gurgli durgli durgi" etc. it cracks me up but I wish he would say a word!

We think we might almost have the hang of "night night" - at bedtime he does say "na nigh" while he is trying to get himself settled, but sometimes he just says it over and over and over while flinging himself around in his cot without actually making an attempt to sleep which makes me wonder if he is just playing and likes the word. We MIGHT have a word there though as it is pretty consistent and he doesn't say it unless he's in his cot.

The only other thing he says is "nom nom nom" at mealtimes and I don't think that really counts! Funny though... :haha:

The average age for first words is about 12 months. He'll be talking before you know it. :)

Agree with previous poster - average age is 12 mths. All babies babble and I think the confusing thing is when you hear another parent say their baby said mama or dada at 5 mths old - but in reality they would have to be VERY advanced to say those words in context. My lo is 11.5 mtgs, and says dada (only the last week), he says its when daddy comes home from work, and to his dads pictures around the house...

Oh good! I read so many things about babies saying words much younger here, My DH and i have been slightly worried he's a tad slow to reach this milestone. Glad to hear he is perfectly normal :D

At 11 months all our LO could say was dada and dog. He loves saying dog over and over again while following them around the house :dohh:

Just yesterday he came up with what sounds like "done!" when he finished his dinner he threw his hands up and said "done!" and when he was ready to leave a friends house he ran to the door and did the same thing :haha:

He understands a lot though... More than I thought they do at 12 months!

He's full of gibrish too.. His favourite word now is "ging!" which oddly enough means gross in Viet so OHs family thinks its hilarious!

My little mans 12 months, and has JUST picked up today 'Bye bye' 'mama' 'Dada' but he doesnt know what mama and dada are haha. Hes also just started giving me hugs and saying awwh, and roaring like a lion. Rofl. x

He definitely is normal-and so gorgeous! I remember you from a due date countdown thread from third tri when we were getting ready to have our babies a whole YEAR ago!! Where's the time gone?! :-( xx

Average age for first word is 12 months. One of my good friends has a son who had only 6 words at age 2. Both of mine are early talkers... But that's not the norm. It's not that they are advanced... They just concentrate on words before other things. Jordan isn't even army crawling. Her cousin was running by 9 months. They aren't any smarter than other kids... They just talked earlier than most.

At 15 months when Megan saw her pediatrician she wanted her to have 3 words. She had about 75 by then.

My dh was an early talker... My first word was at 15 months.

My LO doesn't have any proper words yet either, and she'll be 1 in just over 24 hours! She says sounds which could be taken as Mumma and Dadda but not the actual words. We thought she said "birdie" today when looking out the window, but she wouldn't say it again so I'm not convinced. X

Willow didn't say her first word until maybe 13 months. Didn't even really babble until recently.

Nothing to worry about :-)

Mine is 10.5 months and babbles baba, mama, nana and dada, but she doesn't know what they mean or use then with meaning. She doesn't show any signs of saying a first word yet

Alex is 11.5months and can Say mama, dada, and baba. Although he doesn't know what they mean yet and to be honest I was getting a little worried too until I seen this thread.

Have a peek in the toddlers section. There are several threads with 2 year olds who still have zero words!

Ashley is quite the little babbler but he hasn't got any words yet.

22 months and only 10 words maybe, although they are said once and never repeated! Seriously, don't stress out when your LO is only 11 months :)

Popping in from toddler section; my LO is 23months and only has about 25/30words! Much less than most her age but at 11months I was more concerned about her not crawling/walking rather than talking!

Xx
