My 16 month old has been walking for a few months but he seems to walk on his tiptoes. Not all the time but a lot. Is this normal? When he started cruising round the furniture at about 10/11 months, he'd always be on his tiptoes. I'm blaming his jumperoo for this as he used to love that as a baby!

Is he walks in tip toes even with or without shoes on?
I'm not professional it might be early as he just started walking but if is really worrying you is worth to mention to your hv.

From what I've read, a lot of babies do this when they're starting to walk, and most outgrow it on their own.

He does it in both his shoes and barefoot. I bought him so proper fitting shoes from Brantano, they were trainers, which I thought would help but it didn't. I know they don't recommend them for toddlers, but I bought him some Converse as they are much flatter and they've definitely helped. He doesn't walk on his tiptoes in those. I know they say they are bad for their feet but I'm pretty sure my mum never bought me any proper shoes and I walk fine.

I was watching him again this morning and he was walking flat on his feet so I think it may be just where he's new to walking. I'm probably going to go to the health visitor on Thursday anyway with my newborn so I'll ask them when I'm there x

I would say it is normal. Thomas saw his paediatrician a few days ago who asked if he can go on his tiptoes and he can't. So don't worry :)

My LO is 16 months and sometimes does this when he is barefoot.
He has been walking for 3 months.
He doesn't do it in his shoes. He wears his Clarks, converse and Dr Marten boots out (I didn't realise converse were bad!?, are DM's too?).

I just thought it was something they did.

For my two, no, that would not be normal. They both walked flat footed with toes curled a bit under for grip (I suppose?). Sophie's been walking for a bit over a month now and I have never seen her go up on her toes.

My lo is coming up for 18 months she has been walking around 3 months now and she does this aswell while barefoot, DD1 was exactly the same and she outgrew it, think they are just learning new things and experimenting with what they can do while on there feet

Just on the Jumperoo comment, Lennon was addicted to his for several months and never had a problem with walking on his toes and he spent quite a lot of time in it.

Lennon took his first steps before his first birthday and has always walked flat footed, sometimes with curled toes on the wooden floor.

If you're worried, mention it to a professional.

My lo does this a few times too but not everyday. Only when he is barefoot and he only started doing this a few weeks back.

My boy went through a tiptoe walking phase from about 19-22 months. He never does it anymore (unless he's trying to reach something high up). I think he done it purely because he could!

It could easily be considered "normal" but I'd keep an eye on it just to be sure, as if LO is still doing it when they are 2, I would consider it as a "red flag" for autism.
