17 month old not latching well

Hi, my almost 17mo is not latching well anymore. For the past month it feels as if she is holding my nipples between her teeth or really clamping down on them. It is quite uncomfortable and is worst at night. I try unlatching and relatching but, unlike a newborn, when I touch her nose with my nipple she does not open wide and gets very frustrated
(I suspect she is teething). Is there any way to get a sleepy toddler to open wide and improve her latch?
