17 weeks and cervix is open :-(

Had some spotting and got sent for an ultrasound on valentines day.. Bub looked great but my cervix is dilated have been put on strict bed rest with another scan booked in 1 weeks time to see if there are any further changes..... So upset right now as was so unexpected I am terrified we will loose our beautiful baby boy!! Is anyone else experiencing this or something similar?? The top one cm remains closed and the bottom 3 cm is over 1cm dilated!!!!

I was goin to say about a stitch too?? I dont have eny experiance myself but i had a client who was on bed rest for about 5-6 months of her pg, the baby was prem but not by much and she was healthy!!

maybe they want you to have bedrest for one week to see if it improoves then decided on stitch or more bedrest. do stick to the bedrest and try and keep positive if you at all can until next week.

maybe was it open due to the spotting / bleeeding but will close itself again?

Fxd for you I was on progesterone pessarie for low progestone in first 12 weeks, but after that you come off it! The only reason is to prevent labour, I wonder if the stitch wasn't a problem if these pessaries would be! Worth asking I was on cyclogest 400mg twice a day x

I'm sorry you are going through this. My first pregnancy I was dilated 2cm with bulging membranes. I live in a area with doctors who didn't have much experience with this so they sent me home on strict bedrest and told me I wouldnt last the week. I made it to 21 weeks and three reason I went into Labor was because of an infection. I'm not telling you this to scare you because you sound like your in a better position than I was. I am a firm believer in bedrest and truly believe if it wasn't for that infection I could of made it further.
This time around I am staying with family to see a good experienced doctor. *if you doubt your doctors decisions do not hesitate to seek a second opinion* I had the cerclage put in at 14 weeks and given progesterone infections. Everything was fine but at 22 weeks my cervix was funneling and my cervix shortened to 12mm. I have been on bedrest with bathroom breaks since then and at my last ultrasound there was no change. I believe bedrest works when followed properly. I hope everything works out and that you have no changes. I suggest you ask your doctor about the cerclage and progesterone injections before any changes take place. Good luck! I hope everything goes well.

I had a friend who had this problem. She was put on bed rest for the rest of her pregnancy and delivered a healthy baby girl 3 weeks early. I hope everything works out for you, I can't imagine how scary this must be. I am sure the Doctors will do everything they can.

I would ask about the cerclage but i thought they couldn't do it if you were already dilating? I hope all works out for you. Good luck

Hi sweety. I am so sorry you are going through this but you are not alone. I went through the same thing at 18 weeks placed on bedrest in and out of the hospital. i had got a second opinion from a different doctor/hospital and had a cerclage placed at 20wks i am now 25wks+4 days and everything is stable i am still on bedrest and get check ups every week. My little boy and I are doing great despite all we went through my advice is always get a second opinion when it comes to IC if you arent getting the answer you want theres always something that can be done. Dont give up hope and pray. Theres also some great ladies and info on IC and dialted cervix on the gestational complications board on here. I havent posted on here in months bc of bedrest and all the craziness but when i read your post i had to reply. You are in my prayers.

If you are dialated surely they would put u in immediately for an emergency cerclage(stitch)??i would be ringing around now and finding out why this hasn't been done yet.a week is a long time to wait in such an advanced condition I was out on bed rest and given another emergency appointment and scan the very next weekday and my cervix was only shortened to 2.8cm with funneling.a stitch wasn't an option for me as I had a complete prévia but it was talked about straight away.i was also put on two different meds progesterone pesseries and a blood pressure med for contractions.good luck x
