Hi All,

I haven't posted for a while but am really in need of some advice/support. I have been TTC for 18 months now. I have had a 21 day progesterone blood test which was fine. I have regular cycles give or take a few days either side.

My husband has had 2 sperm counts, the 2nd of which came back as 3% normal forms, but his GP told us this was normal and to just carry on trying.

6 months on and today I have an appointment for an infertility consultation at the hospital. My period was due on Thursday last week and so far hasn't started (3-4 days late now). I also normally get a brownish discharge for a day or so before I get the full flow of my period and I haven't had any of that.

I don't have any symptoms apart from feeling very moody (like PMT), and hungry a lot, which is sometimes normal for me just before my period. I did a clearblue home test this morning which was negative.

I really had convinced myself that I was pregnant. I am so disappointed. I really feel like I can't start another month of TTC and have just had enough of it all. My period has never been late in all the months we have been trying. I used to get longer cycles but that was years ago.

Has anyone got a false negative at 3 days overdue? Just feel so deflated and like I can't go on trying now.

Hi Caline

I do feel for you - this ttc marlarky certainly takes its toll!!!

I would say that I am a 28 day regular kinda gal but every few months I have a longer cycle (by 3-4 days) which as you said does get you thinking (hoping!) for that elusive BFP!

Unfortunately I'm coming up to 2 years in the ttc journey so no luck for me yet - I sometimes think the longer cycles are due to stress I'm putting my body through wishing and hoping every month!

Fingers crossed this is your month though and if not good luck with the consultant

xx

Hi Caline,
I'm sorry you're going through this. I've been TTC for so long and had this happen to me too in Nov, turns out the one month I took off of charting my OV had been delayed due to stress (left my job of ten years to start a new one) and my AF was two weeks late. When I finally broke down and tested, it felt like a punch in the gut when it was neg:(
I hope you find out what is going on soon...

I have been awake all night crying and feel rubbish, and am due at work in an hour or so!

Had my supposed consultation at the hospital yesterday, and was seen by a medical student who said she was going to take my history then the consultant would come and see me. So, she took my history, went out of the room to get the consultant, then came back and said the consultant was too busy to see me!!! I got a form to have a blood test on day 3 of my next cycle, for FSH, prolactin and rubella. The medical student didn;t have a clue about anything and I haven't a clue what I am being tested for.

Having paid my national insurance for the past 19 years I really felt that I was entitled to see the consultant, not some learner. What makes is harder to swallow is that I am a member of staff in the maternity unit and the consultant couldn't be bothered to even show her face. I know the consultant I should have been seeing and could hear her explaining all this stuff to the medical student outside of the room! I just wonder what was making her so busy that she couldn't come and explain it to my face.

I am very upset and angry about this, and feel the whole thing was a total waste of time. I have to go back in 3 weeks for the results. I am wondering who I'll be seen by then. Maybe a receptionist of if I'm lucky, maybe even a cleaner!???!

So pissed off (sorry).

That is frustrating, it belittles the experience for you. I can understand how you feel. If you are expecting to see the consultant you want to see the consultant not a student.

All my tests where carried out by a nurse and then when they were back we saw the consultant then who referred us for the lap and dye. It is better that way as you know where you stand. Until the results are all in it is not probably neccessary to see the consultant. I am sure when all your results are back you will definitely see the consultant then as they will need to refer you on.

Hope the next three weeks fly, its horrid all the waititng, isn't it.

Sorry I know how you feel my first 2 appointments I never saw the actual consultant and at the 2nd appointment I got so angry with the person for giving me wrong information and being generally patronising he had to go and get the consultant!!! (I wasn't ruse but just got impatient with him and pointed out where he was going wrong!!) Hope the 3 weeks go quickly and the results come back ok. I can imagine this is even more frustrating with actually working there.

That is pretty darn nasty from the dc not to even see you for a min and tell you in person they need the test before being able ot make a proper conclusion..

I hope he or she will make the effort next time.. it is very frustrating being late without a proper reason..

:hugs:

Thank you, at least its not just me.
I actually work in the maternity unit and have managed to have a good telk to one of the obstetric registrars who is going to speak with the consultant. She had redone the blood forms as the junior had them all wrong (!), and also a referral for an HSG.
The only compliction in the whole thing is that my period is late (a week now), so I can't crack on with any of the tests and all 4 tests I have done have been negative.
Talk about frustrating.
Thanks for your repllies XX
