Argh! So confused right now....

Its my first day of maternity leave today...and just yesterday we became able to have a deposit to buy the house we are already in (renting from friends)

I have a well paid job and intend to go back full time in February. Hubby's job isnt as well paid but even with maternity pay we could afford the bills easily.

If we were to apply for a mortage my last 3 months wage slips are from my normal pay - but will the bank pay no attention of that and just reject me because I'm on maternity? Its so frustrating because I know that we could afford to pay it back really easily.

Has anyone on here managed to get a mortgage in my situation?

Thanks ladies. xxx

You shouldn't. I worked mortgage for years and I did several cases where the woman would be on maternity leave sometime during the closing. You have employment, you are going to return. I know they've gotten a lot stricter since I got out of the mortgage game but I can't see that they have changed anything about maternity stuff.

Good luck!

As above really...I've worked for a high street bank as a mortgage advisor for the last 5 years, although been off the last year on mat leave myself. If my customer was in your position (which I had happen lots of times) I would ask them to obtain a letter from their employer stating the job role, when they were due to return and on what basis ie full or part time and their salary. This was generally acceptable to the mortgage underwriters who assess the case and issue the mortgage offer and if they needed any more info they would sometimes contact the employer but this rarely happened. Hope that helps a bit!!

Thanks ladies. I'm a teacher and intend to go back full time in February.... I have a pretty good deal with maternity pay and know that we can afford to pay it back over the next 9 months. I'll get in touch with HR and get them to write a letter! :)xxx
