1st IUI..confused!

Went in for my baseline ultrasound on cd3 (2/16) and my lining was normal. She then told me to take Letrozole/Femara 2 pills a day 5mg from cd3-7 and then start OPKs on cd11 or cd12 and once I get a positive, call asap to schedule the insemination the next day! She then handed me a specimen cup in a paper bag and said to be sure to bring it w|me on iui day. I asked if I'd need any midway ultrasounds to see progress, she said no.

My question is, will I be doing a trigger shot at all or no since I ovulate on my own? I'm confused because thus protocol seems so much different than the ones I've read about in these forums. I go to Kaiser in North CA..could this just be their way?

If they have you check with opks, then no you won't have a trigger shot.
Frankly, I know some places work like this but I think it's pretty irresponsible. You never know how your body will react to the meds, you could produce 6 eggs! Or none! It's important to moniter you. Plus there's the added bonus of knowing when you'll ovulate because of the trigger shot when your eggs are ready, so you have the best timing possible for the IUI!

Thank you for your reply! I was thinking the same thing. I'm expecting them to do a scan when we go in for the actual iui while DHs contribution is being washed and we wait. But if they end up having to cancel, I'm going to be livid! They can't expect people to just wing it, take time off, to go in and find out they have to cancel!

Yes that's silly! Also do you live close by the clinic? In my case there was a big difference in sperm we got at home and sperm that got washed right away. I'd consider asking to do the sample on site if you live a bit far.

Spoke w|the nurse at REs office and she said they don't do midway scans, or any scan before the actual iui and no trigger. Good news is, the iui w|sperm wash is $136! We have 50% share cost through work insurance.
