I'm absolutely terrified. Sat here in tears. Skylar hasn't needed much support with her breathing, and has been breathing without any support for a couple of weeks. She's been on and off with the feeds as her tummy gets so big, they take her off & give her anti-biotics and take X-rays, but all it shows is excess gas/air. Well after the 4th time on Tuesday her consultant at Wishaw said she'd sent her X-rays to Yorkhill (hospital for sick children) and she's now been transferred there. They've started her feeding again at 3ml and hr the her tummy bloated again and they stopped for a few hrs. Consultant was happy to start again at 1ml, and its been increased to 3ml again. DH has just phoned to see how her night was and they say her tummy is up again but they're continuing to feed her and she had a couple of episodes of short desats. I've been told before its her diaphragm that's been pushed up by the air. I'm so scared for her. Has anyone had any experience with this? Blood isn't showing any infection and neither are the X-rays. It's just air. Will she grow out if this? She's currently 33+4

When my 23 weeker was on Cpap and having gaviscon added to his milk for reflux - he got really constipated and the air from the cpap was trapped in his belly making it huge and hard. It put alot of pressure on his diaphragm and ultimately he ended up back on the ventilator.
I know one of the mums in our NICU (southern general) is on a dairy free diet as her little one is intolerant and had problems taking her breast milk. Have they checked Skylar for anything like that? xx

No not yet, but the X-ray they just did showed a bulge in her gut so they're putting dye through tomorrow. I'm hoping its something simple to fix, she's pooing, but she strains and sounds constipated but poo comes out normal consistency. She's also slightly anaemic today which doesn't help matters
