My baby girl just turned 11 months today

when should I start weaning her off formula to 2 % cows milk?

How do I do it?

I hear different opinions

what do you wonderful moms think?

I am so nervous ,I don't want her tummy to hurt

I searched up here, but I may be wording it wrong,so I decided to start my own thread..Thanks in advance ladies:flower:

I introduced cows milk at about 10 months on breakfast or in cooking but not as a drink until LO was 1.

Up to then he had water only with meals & formula for bedtime & early morning bottle.

If your happy LO has 3 heathly meals plus snacks a day and is getting a wide verity of fruits & veg & foods you could start reducing formula now.

Normally I believe it's reccomended you wait until after they are 1 - & it should be whole milk until they are 2+.

My toddler is 19 months & we only just stopped using formula at bedtime. Stopped using it on a morning ages ago.

My friends LO is 6 weeks older & still sometimes has formula in the day - but she's a very fussy eater.

My HV told me to introduce it in cereals at 8 months. As for a bottle, when she turned 11 months I started doing half formula and half cows milk, and when she turned 12 months I switched to just cows milk. She doesn't seem to have noticed a difference. X

6 months for milk in cereal etc and 12 for a main drink.

They need full fat milk

I agree - 2% milk is what we call semi-skimmed here. Full fat milk has nearly 4% fat - babies need full fat milk till the age of two.

Thank you ladies, yep I am definitely a new mom.I thought whole milk would be to fatty for her lol Learn something new everyday :)

They can go down to 2% at age 2 if they are healthy and have gained weight ok. Then it is either whole milk or 2% milk up to the age of 5. At 5 they can have skimmed milk if that is what you usually have yourself at home.

PJ won't be weaned for awhile. He still refuses all solids so the formula is his only source of nutrition. But, ideally, with a baby that DOES eat solids, my Pediatrician starts to wean at a year old I believe.
