Hi asking on behalf of my cousin: early scan dated her at 4 weeks 5 days, hcg at 1767, progesterone at 60, 2 corpus luteum present. Can 2 corpus luteum lead to a regular singleton pregnancy rather than the twins the hospital have speculated over? She'll have further bloods and a rescan on Saturday & Monday but in the meantime what are the chances of it being 1 baby only? Many thanks

If there are 2, she ovulated two eggs, with about a 20% chance of each egg being fertilized, so I guess that's a 20% chance it's twins.

I would say it's far likelier that it's a singleton than twins. HCG numbers really can't predict twins or not. It's fun to speculate but the numbers just don't correlate to the number of babies. But, she did ovulate two eggs which means there is a chance of twins.

Thankyou for the replies, she and hubby are petrified at the suggestion of multiples, the risk doesn't sound sky high so that's a bit of reassurance right there.
