Well, lo has his 2 month appointment today and the doctor noted 2 issues. First issue was a testicular hydrocele and the second was plagiocephaly.. Has anyone had any experience with either of these issues? I'm thinking this doctor was a little too over the top.. She wants an ultrasound done on the hydrocele and an x-ray done on his neck for the plagiocephaly.. We agreed to the ultrasound but not to the x-ray.. From everything I have read on Dr Google most hydroceles clear up on their own by 1 year of age and just by simply adjusting his head and doing plenty of tummy time should help the plagiocephaly. I don't know what to think at this point.. If anyone has any experience with either of these, please share. TIA

My youngest DS had hydroceles at birth and they went away on their own by his 6 month check up. :) The ultrasound is not a bad idea, that way you can rule out any further issues.

Sorry I don't have any personal experience with plagiocephaly. Hopefully both issues resolve themselves with minimally invasive care.

My LO had a hydrocele in his left testicle and it was gone by his five month check. It was probably gone quite some time before that but I can't actually remember when it went away, it just did gradually.

My son also had a bit of flathead behind his right ear. Here in NZ they are very blasé about it and nothing was done. He's two years and 7 months now and his head is almost symmetrical. I don't think anyone but me actually knows there's a slight residual flat spot. I expect it will have resolved completely by the time he's stopped growing.

Hiya. My first had hydrocele and it went away by the time he was 1. My second has quite severe plagio. We decided to go with a helmet at 6 months after a cranial osteopath advised it wasn't improving with repositioning and tummy time and a mimos pillow (these are good though, maybe look into that if your LO always returns to the same side). I would advise getting your baby's neck muscles checked by an osteopath to rule out tightness in muscles being the cause of plagio. You can also get special mattresses to relieve the pressure on the back of their heads. Best of luck with the repositioning. The helmet is a right bloody pain in the arse so keep your baby off their back as much as possible to avoid it!!! X

My son had a flat spot due to torticollis (a tight muscle one one side of his neck - most likely from being so cramped in utero). We were referred to a physical therapist and I did stretches and strengthening exercises 5-6 times a day from like 1 to 3 months... Then fewer and fewer sessions as he got older. We were done by about 5 months.

It sounds like a bigger deal than it was, it was very easy to do. By the time we realized it was an issue, he could roll his head around easily, so when we tried to get him to sleep facing one way, he would end up turning his head back most of the time. I don't see any harm in nipping it in the bud now, but there can be other physical issues that come up if nothing is done.
