Hi.
I am looking for some advice.
previous history is long so will keep it as short as I can. Terrified of going over due as family history(cousins) of two stillbirths after going overdue. Explained to midwife and consultant, who all ignored what I felt.
My waters broke 1 week after due date.
Induced after water broke with meconium emergency section with my son after failure to progress (24hr) only got to 7cm, after section baby was on antibiotics and had severe jaundice. Don't remember first 12/18hrs after my sons birth due to high bloodpressure, being given morphine etc

Now I am nearly 16 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child and from my booking in appointment have said I would like an elective section, my midwife was ok with this and refered me on to consultant. I had my appointment today with vbac midwife she asked why I was there and explained my reasons ( no skin to skin, not able to breastfeed, not holding my son for 12 hrs and not remebering anything) to which she said were not a valid medical reason and if I saw a consultant they would agree and that a vbac would be offered. She said unless I could prove a valid medical reason no one would agree with me.

Now I am feeling stressed and upset but do not know where to go next, I thought that my reasoning was valid but now feel maybe I am making a big deal out of my previous birth experience.

Can anyone give me any advice.
Thanks x

Hi hun, I honestly would wait untill u spoke to consultant I was told on 2nd pregnancy after first being emcs that I wasn't able to opt for elective I was so upset and worried the whole time walked into consultants stated my case and he just went " ok i agree if that's what you want its fine" and was quote annoyed I had been told no by someone else now on 3rd and this time told I was having elective before I even sat down and opened my mouth. Good luck ask to speak to consultant. X

I am in UK.
I phoned my midwife team today and they are going to make sure I get to see a consultant, not sure when. X

Oh k... good luck...be firm hun... they cant deny u if u refuse ...

Hi. Hope they sort it out for you. I had EMCS with no1 and I am thinking about TTC baby no2 in a few months and part of me wants a csection again, the whole experience was quite traumatic as I had to go to theatre twice and was quite ill afterwards but I know what to expect with a section now.

I had emcs after a bad induction and my midwife told me after when i asked her that they would prob encourage me to habe a vbac but they cant actually deny you a section. My friend had a section with her second after a traumatic birth. Section wasnt medically necessary but they made her talk someone about her fears etc and she decided after she still wanted section so she got it. If i HAD to have a vbac i am not sure i would have another baby. I hate myself that i 'failed' to do it 'right' first time round and i had to have a general anasthetic so i went to sleep in pain and woke up with a four hour old baby that had been fed and dressed. I can totally sympathise. Dont worry hun. If you go on the nhs site it tells you that you will speak to someone and if you still decide on section they will do it.

I shouldn't worry, whilst they will probably recommend vbac I think it's pretty much your choice. When I saw the consultant I said straight away I wanted repeat c-section and she basically just said "Ok, that's fine, come back at 36 wks to book a date". She did give me a vbac leaflet to read through but it felt more because that was standard practice.

I think vbac is what they advise for most Mums. In the long run it tends to be better for mum and baby. If you did have a natural birth then you would get the skin to skin immediately and chances are you would not be suffering low blood pressure or need morphine. But I understand your fears of it all being like last time. I'm trying for vbac this time. I too feel I missed out on first few hours as couldn't hold him, can't remember anything, struggled with bf and bonding. I worry that trying for a vbac will end in another emcs. I suppose all you can do is go see the consultant. Obviously a vbac midwife is going to be very pro vbac and so that's why she is discouraging you. If you are not happy with the consultant decision when you see them then you are within your rights to ask to see someone else. Good luck. I hope you get the birth you want

I hope you get what you want. Around here they seem to give out elective Csections to anybody.

I am honsetly scared to death about having this baby after all the complications and eventual Csection with my first :S

It's amazing how different things are in different countries. In the US, VBACs aren't usually recommended- if you had a c section, then it's standard to have another section. There has been a lot of effort to make a VBAC more commonplace, but it's not widely accepted at this time.

Tristansmum. Thanks for your input, it sounds like our births were similar.
I am really hating the idea of another emcs as I would like to be more in controlthis time.

Good luck with your vbac, I hope it goes well for you. X

Thank you. And you too. I hope we both get a better experience this time. It's such an individual choice on what to do after a emcs. X
