Hi ladies,

I had my 20 weeks scan at 19+2, everything else seemed to be measuring about 19+2 except for femur length, I looked at the report and it says 9.9 percentile. I havent gone back to OB to get the results, but been googling and seeing it may be a soft marker for downs syndrome. the femur length was measuring 18+2. My combined NT test result was 1:10600 for downs. Has anyone else had anything like this

At our 19w3d anatomy scan, bub was on avg measuring 20w2d except his femur! His femur was set back to 18 weeks i believe.. our report says 10%ile but all is well. I think drs take those measurements with a grain of salt. After 1st tri all babies grow at their own pace plus u/s arent the most accurate if babies in an awkward position etc. Xx

Try not to worry, at this stage they are not uniform in length. You may just have a baby with little legs! My sonographer told me that my boy's measurements were sitting wonderfully on the line at 20 weeks, she was very happy - however, when I googled the measurements at home the femur length was measuring 19 weeks and the head was measuring 21 weeks. So I have a DS with a big head and little legs ;) A similar thing happened with my last pregnancy - DD had a very slim abdomen on the 10th percentile at the 20 week scan. I was a bit concerned but she is just a slim child and always has been.

Try not to worry unless your Dr mentions it to you, these little ones come in all shapes and sizes :)

Thank you girls, I was in the 10%ile as well everything else was okay except for femur. Google scares you sometimes. My husband and his family is quite short so hopefully thats what its related to.

Hi love, I'm a sonographer. One week behind is fine. It could be the angle the sonographer measured at or could be your little one is going to be a shortie or it might catch up at some point. We only worry if the measurements are two or more weeks behind (this is mainly the head and abdominal circumference though)

I'm sure your little one is fine xx

Really don't worry. My daughter was basically short but ahead around her belly. She's now 2 in September and on the 75th percentile for height and although she's a good weight she's by no means overweight x

Everything else seemed to measure fine, it was only the femur and humerus length. Humerus wasnt soo off it was only few days off. They gave me a cd of the recording of the whole session and when I started watching at home I realised that during the femur measurement she stops the cursor a few mm before the end of the bone, which I think is what might have caused that slight error. Thanks for comforting me though, my husband and his family are short so maybe she takes after them who knows :)

I wouldn't worry hun! With my first pregnancy my sons femur length was behind at my 20+4 week scan it measured a week behind I was worried but doctors didn't seems concerned x

My baby girl is measuring behind on both arms and legs. Leg bone is 1 week behind and arm bone is a little less than 2 weeks behind. CVS test all came back as normal. Rest of her body is measuring fine. The specialist is not concerned - chalking it up to genetics (I am small framed). He also said if you took a measurement of your bones they wouldn't all measure perfect either.

I reckon it could be the angle. I guess measurements can never be exact because babies do as they please inside there, and us ladies are all different shapes and sizes too! So I assume most measurements are taken with a pinch if salt unless very very far behind. I wouldn't worry too much, if they were worried they would have made more of a point about it and maybe insisted on a follow up test or scan.

My measurements were fine, but due to my BMI they still insisted on another scan at 28 weeks to make sure my baby doesn't fall behind, and they only seemed to be bothered about head and tummy circumfrence to be honest. But due to my very ravenous appetite while pregnant I'm not worried.
X
