Hello‚

Not meaning to sound like an over anxious Mum but I just wondered if you lovely people might be able to tell me if this is completely normal or not?

My 20 week old daughter has lovely fair skin‚ she has since birth without any marks or milk spots whatsoever. She has developed a large bright red mark on her arm that begun as what appeared to be a blood vessel and has since doubled in size and raised. HV told me it was nothing to worry about - Simply a birth mark that would eventually disappear. She now has this light brown mole that has appeared on her thigh - Only reason im querying it is because when i mentioned it to a few family and friends they seemed awfully concerned that a baby this young would have a mole showing so early? I havent been overally worried but thought maybe some reassurance would put my mind at rest?

Thank you in advance for any replies!

The red mark sounds like a hemangioma, which my LO had/has as well. It's nothing to worry about as long as it doesn't start causing problems (like getting agitated when rubbing up against clothes, etc.). Otherwise it's purely cosmetic and will fade and go down starting around 1.

My LO got her first freckle around 4 months old, a tiny one right on her hairline. She's gotten about 10 other ones on her arms and legs since. I'm also very fair skinned with lots of freckles so not surprising that she's the same, really.

I wouldn't be concerned at all. :)

Thank you so much for your reply. You've completely put my mind at ease. I wasn't concerned until other ppl kept making comments which were causing me to doubt my better instincts. Have an 18 month old who takes after my husband more than me, not so fair skinned and she hasn't a mark on her so this was new to me.

Thank you again! :flower:

My lo also has the red birthmark, commonly known as a strawberry birthmark on her hip. Dr said it would begin to fade as she gets older and be gone by around age 7-10.

Thank you for your reply. Seems a lot more common than I thought as well!
Probably doesn't help that something so bright red and big on such a little girl probably looks a lot worse than it is :flower:

Thank you ladies for the reassurance! X

My DD was born with a mole on her back (almost exact same spot where I have one!) & developed a couple smaller ones after a few months so wouldn't worry about that :) xx

My DS developed a mole on the bridge of his nose at 5 months. He was also born with two cafe au lait birth marks. I was worried about these but apparently they're fine as long as they don't have multiple ones (like more than six).
