I just wrote a post about bottlefeeding and the LINDAM NIGHT AND DAY FEEDING SYSTEM but im in two minds wheather to breast feed or not

I know this sounds really selfish but the only thing that i dont like about it is the fact that im doing in public I want the baby to have the best possible start(last time i couldnt as i was on a certain heart med, but this time im off it).

Is any1 else like this. I mean i know im being silly and its natural but i just dont like the bit about peeople seeing me doing it. I know people may say do it in private places when ur out but its not always that easy eg not always places adavaible.

I suppose i could express????? But how long does it keep fresh?

I won't be BFing where people can see me. Yes it's natural I know, but I won't feel comfortable with it. Even when visiting family for Christmas I will take LO into my bedroom to feed her rather than sit in front of people.

I think you have to put into perspective how often you go out, or would plan to go out. I certainly won't be going out every single day for hours at a time so I feel happy expressing milk, or finding a discreet place to BF.

These are the recommend guidelines for using breastmilk by:

Room temperature 6 hours
Fridge 5-10c 3 days
Fridge 0-4c 8 days
Freezer 18c or below 6 months
Defrosted in fridge 12 hrs
Defrosted outside of fridge use immediately

thanks wooooooo i do u mean that breastmilk is safe to be left in a fridge for 3- 8 days after being expressed
? whoooooooo im surprised as made up formula they say only 24 hrs? Am i undertsanding this wrong?

I have my uni exams 4 weeks after the lo is born so i panacking alot at the mo

Yep, 3-8 days in the fridge depending on how cold your fridge is. If you express it and don't put it in the fridge and keep it at room temperature then you should use it within 6 hours. :)

Thats one of the reasons I didn't BF - I was worried about what other peoples opinion would be in public.

Will think diff next time - i'd like to at least have a go!

You can also freeze milk too can't you? If I do get on well with BFing next time I'd also like to donate my milk!

xx

so nect question issssssssssssss

I have my exmas 4 weeks after baby is due so i really need to be able to do some work eg revision (even a few hrs in the day) so i will need the oh to say get up and do the feeds evary other nite or come to some other arrangement.

Now ive been reading that this isnt a good idea as u shouldnt use bottles in the few 2 months or sumthing like that????? ahhhh what to do cause i need to be able for some1 else to feed the baby when i doing my exams. Also the baby may be late so may only be say 2 weeks when im doing my exams

I personally see no problem with breastfeeding in public. I actually get a warm fuzzy feeling (even before I was pregnant) when I saw a mother breast feeding her child.

However, one must be a little discreet, ie: a receiving blanket over the baby/breast. To openly pop your breast out and rub it in the baby's face, with no coverage, to me is a little personnel and should be done only with family and close friends. Of course, we also, as women, have to watch how doing this might effect our signficant others. Some men may not like it. Others will not be bothered by it. I know my hubby would not be happy if I just pulled a breast out in public for all to see.

I know its natural and all, but call me modest if you want.

If you can avoid using bottles for the first month or so then it's better. It's a lot easier for babies to get milk out of a bottle, whereas they have to work at getting it out the breast, so many babies become lazy and start refusing the breast.

Re the night feedings - because I co-slept I got loads of sleep, I would just feed and sleep at the same time (how's that for multi-tasking). If you don't feel happy with co-sleeping, it's still easier to just lift the baby out of the basket, plug them in and put them back as opposed to having to make up bottles etc.

You'll find that if you do choose to BF, that you'll be tied to the sofa a lot for the first few weeks. It's a great time for reading etc. I read so many books in the first few weeks I lost count.

Good luck with whatever you choose and with your exams.
