How long will my tears bleed? I have a 2nd degree tear that has 3-4 stitches and a few internal tears that didn't require stitches. I'm on day 4 PP and they're still bleeding. Is that ok?... Freaks me out lol

it might not be the actual tears that are bleeding? I didn't check down there until like 1 year PP LOL, but I had a 2nd degree tear and bleeding for 6 weeks. Not sure how long it took the tears to heal and stitches to dissolve though!

How do you know it's the tears bleeding? Probably sound really dim but I had no way of knowing what was the lochia and what was my tears bleeding (if they did). I'd ask your midwife; it's probably different for each person, but they might be able to give you an idea :)

Haha. In actually don't know for sure! I'm way too much of a wuss to have a look down there. I'm terrified of even blotting after peeing. I assumed it was my tear or tears because of the color of blood! Hahaha. Maybe its just the lochia then. I had a C section last time and so I knew for sure then it was just PP bleeding and nothing else. This time I don't know what side of the fence the war blood is coming from!

:haha:. I'd say it's most likely your lochia, as your stitches probably wouldn't bleed unless they were pulled open? PP bleeding can be pretty grim eh!

I would say it's the PP bleeding and not the tear, it should be fine once stitched up.. I had a 2nd degree tear - a lot of stitches, not sure how many but it took a good hour to get it all sewn up, and a PPH of about 900ml, and bled for 5 weeks thereabouts.

I bled for 6 months with a second degree tear. At my 6 wk I was def bleeding, she gave me some cream to use. It didn't really help much.

You should expect bleeding for awhile. You just had a baby :)

I'm guessing it's just normal pp bleeding. Your tear shouldn't really be bleeding at this point if it's been stitched. If you are having a lot of pain (like the pain is increasing rather than decreasing) or notice stitches falling out, it's worth getting your midwife to just check for you. Or get her to check for your just for your piece of mind if it's bothering you. I did have a stitch pop out about day 4, but it was no big deal and I don't think it bled.

But your postpartum bleeding should continue for 4-6 weeks, sometimes longer, though it won't always be as heavy as it is these first 2 weeks. I found that warm baths 1-2 times a day with a little bit of lavender oil in the bath were great for healing. The water keeps things moist and helps to stimulate your tissues to repair. My midwife recommended it and I was like, seriously, you expect me to get in and out of the bath tub!?!? I had a home birth with no pain relief but THAT seemed impossible at the time. But it was so nice! And really helped.
