From 2nd November two important changes are happening to Housing and Council Tax Benefit Legislation. The two changes are:
The disregard of child benefit income
The increase in the capital limits for pensioners
The Disregard of Child Benefit
In 2008 the Government announced a number of changes to reduce child poverty. As a result with effect from 2nd November 2009 changes in Benefit rules mean that families on low incomes could become entitled to extra assistance with their rent and or council tax.
Child Benefit income will no longer be included in the calculation that assesses entitlement to Housing Benefit & Council Tax Benefit. This means that the amount of income that you can receive and still be entitled to benefit has increased.
