Fredie woke at 2 for his bottle but only took 3oz so i winded him, put him down and went back to sleep for what felt like 10 mins before he was up again so i gave him the rest of his bottle but when winding him noticed tht the time was 5.10! so it had been sitting there for 3 hours! Will it make him poorly? Has anyone else given their LO formula which had bee sitting out a while. I feel so guilty :|

Yeah that can make him poorly. (I think it's unlikely though) It says on the tin not to use it after however long. Think it's an hour as bacteria can grow fast (especially if they've already been drinking it.)

I don't know what to suggest, maybe call NHS direct and speak to a doctor?

Don't feel guilty :hugs: , I'm sure your little man will be fine. Whats done is done as it were!

At the end of the day the amount of time a formula should be thrown away is only guideline.
While it's not ideal it's also not something you do all the time.
Being a mummy is hard enough and lack of sleep makes us all do weird and wonderful things.

One morning I woke up to find my daughter sleeping inbetween me and daddy and the bottle down the end of the bed.
I'd nodded off feeding her. She never got winded or put back in her cot!!!!

Some tins say 1 hour Aptamil says 2 hours.
I'm sure NHS direct will just say keep an eye out for any signs of vomiting.

But if it reassures you then ring them or your HV or Dr.

Just keep an eye on him. Chances are he'll be absolutely fine. Yes, you would never normally do it but we all make mistakes. I passed out with tiredness on the sofa once feeding LO. My Mum was there thank God and took baby otherwise he probably would have wriggled off my lap and fallen on the floor. I have given formula up to the 2 hours it says on the tin and it's been fine. Don't worry X

Guilty as charged lol...I mixed the bottles up once and gave him old formula, nothing happend not even an upset tummy. Hope your LO will be ok.

im sure he will be fine hun. a friend of mine doesnt stick to guidlines at all, she makes up a full bottle and uses it til its gone, even if it takes half the day for her lo to drink it. her lo has never been ill because of her doing that so im sure fredie will show no ill effects hun xx
(just to make clear, im not agreeing with what my friend does, just using it as an example) xx

I've done that at night before to and my daughter is just fine....I'm sure your baby will be ok:)

I think alot of us have inadvertently done this in the past, the guidelines are there to stop people feeding 3 day old formula. I can't see the formula being fine at 1 hr 59 min and not fine at 2 hrs 01 min.

I'm sure it will be fine hun.

When my 1st now 8 was little we used to make up feeds for the whole day and keep them in the fridge - they now tell you to make up as you need them.

When my 2nd, now 3 was little we used to put what she hadn't finished in the fridge (if it was 2/3oz etc) for later - they say not to do that now.

I do go by the guidlines now however I have done as above and both my LO's were fine so am certain a one off feed you bubs had will cause no problems x

sorry to hijack the thread but its kind of related.
does anyone know how long is ok to keep formula milk in the fridge if uve ready made the bottles?

For us its usually 2 to 2 1/2 hours with formula. My LO has been fine. Does anyone know once breast milk is pumped how long it will last?

I did this by accident I picked up the wrong bottle and I only realised when OH told me the one on the side she'd had an oz out of about 3 hours ago and it wasn't one he'd got ready like I had asked him to :dohh:, I panicked thinking it'd upset her tummy etc but she was fine x

Thanks He seems ok anyway. :) Thanks for all you stories I dont feel like such a rubbish mum now cos mistakes do happen and sleep deprivation defo doesnt help x

I've done it aswell, picked up the wrong bottle instead of a fresh one! My lo was absolutely fine. I'm sure most of us will do it, or have done it in the past by mistake xx

Ah hun I've done this loads and loads of times
No worries!
