Help, please!

My 3 month old is EBF apart from the occasional formula top-up (usually less than once a fortnight). Last top up was 3 days ago, and he had a large BM the next day.

However, he's now gone more than 48hrs since his last BM, which I know isn't too bad but he's really miserable with it, poor mite! And as a consequence he's really fussing at the boob and starting to do a number on my nipples, despite using nipple shields (which we've been using since week 2). It doesn't help that he's currently teething (dribbling, chewing at hands, etc) so is just an unhappy baby all round.

Any advice on what I can do to help him go?

I'm no expert but I read that prunes and cherries act as laxatives if eaten in large quantities. Maybe you could try eating those and hopefully they'll pass on to your LO?

A BF baby can go up to 10 days without pooping and it be perfectly normal. Are you sure the miserableness is due to not pooping? Or could it just be because of the teething? If he is teething perhaps he just isn't feeling good and is a bit sick. The immunity goes down during teething.
You could try doing massages to help the tummy if it is because of not pooping. Bicycle his legs to help get things moving.

He's miserable because of the teething for sure, but that's been going on now for the past week. In the last couple of days he's been so fussy at the breast that I've been unable to tolerate feeding him and had to take him off. Writhing, straining and grunting like he's trying to go, unfortunately with my nipple still in his gob.

Fortunately, today we've had two large BMs, and he's a much happier, albeit still very dribbly, baby. Long may this continue!

In the meantime, more cherries for me...
