At 36+2 I woke up and went for a wee but when I got back in bed I felt like I was still weeing so I got up again and tried to wee, but couldn't, then I put on a pad and went back to bed. That day I carried on leaking but randomly and it was never enough to soak the pad (I could have worn the same one all day) so I went to my friends birthday lunch. When I got there it was a surprise baby shower for my LO so I'm glad I went! While I was there I felt more leaking and the pad was wetter so once I got home I told DH and rang the hospital then my mum so she could come over and watch DD. I was also concerned that I hadn't felt the baby move as much as normal, though that could just have been paranoia. I went to the hospital to get checked and baby was moving fine. The doctor checked to see if my waters were in tact and as far as he could tell they were but he said if anything changes to go back and get checked again.

I had a fantastic nights sleep after that, the best in ages (no heartburn and minimal weeing!) then woke up thinking I was weeing and when I stood up my waters went (with a gush!) There was also a lot of blood in so I shouted at DH to change the bed sheets / clean the floor while I showered. I called the hospital who asked me to come in and I rang my mum to let her know we'd be dropping DD off.

When I was checked this time the doctor told me my waters had gone and that because of the bleeding and that I was slightly before term I'd likely be kept in until id had the baby.

I started getting contractions a few hours later but they didn't hurt, were more uncomfortable than painful. They carried on overnight but the following morning had stopped. At this point my BP, urates and blood sugars were all too high. I had a scan to check where the placenta was (it had been low earlier on in the pregnancy and as I was still bleeding they wanted to make sure it was still clear). Baby was very low, estimated at 6lb3 and placenta was still clear. It was decided that I should be induced at this point so I was given prostin which started my contractions up almost immediately - just the same uncomfortable ones, not painful ones. I was 1cm at this point (5:30pm) then as my contractions started coming closer together - around every 5-6 minutes - I was checked again and found to be 1-2. Not sure if she gave me a sweep or what at this point but as I tried to get up from the bed I was hit with constant contractions making me crawl up the bed and hold onto the headboard. I was using my tens machine until then but that was no longer working so I asked for something stronger. I was given paracetamol 😫 which didn't touch it. The midwife checked me again and found I was still 1-2cm but I was thinner so gave me diamorphine - this was about 1am and only about half an hour after my previous check. I slept for 2 hours then asked to be checked again before the drugs wore off. I was told I'd be checked again at 6am when the doctors were around. I started to be sick as the diamorphine wore off then I tried to cope on just the tens machine as pain relief. I couldn't handle it so I asked for pain relief every time they checked on me, only to be told as soon as the doctor gets here. The monitor wasn't really picking up contractions but when the nurses changed over she held my stomach instead and told me to tell her when they were happening. She noticed that because I had a hard bump the tightenings won't have been picked up by their machine. She gave me had and air finally! At 10am the doctor came to check on me and found I was 6-7cm and my waters were still in tact (so it must have been my hind waters leaking previously) and he broke them. I asked (again) about pain relief and was told I was too late for anything but gas and air because the baby would be here soon. I started to cry at this point. Id done a natural birth before and didn't want another. DH calmed me down and then another midwife came running in saying they'd just had some results and I was strep B positive so started me on a drip. Soon after I started feeling the pressure and my body was pushing. When the midwife noticed she took my gas and air and talked me through what to do. Before long, I breathed out the head and could feel it sat there! It seemed like forever before the next contraction but as soon as it came the body slithered out with a little push and he was born!! Our yellow bump turned blue at 11:40am 😄 and was placed on my chest for skin to skin before I cut the cord! DH didn't want to!

DS then had to be taken to SCBU as the risk of infection was high due to me being strep B positive and only just having had the iv and my waters had gone for over 48 hours
so DS had to have IV antibiotics.

All in all I much preferred my first birth (it was quicker!) but I guess there's not much I could have done differently. I'm just glad he's here and he's healthy.

Wow that was long! Sorry, just needed to get it all out!

Congratulations on your baby boy!
